Welcome to Purely Olivia

Hi there! Welcome to Purely Olivia!

Whether you came across this from my old blog, or just by chance, I’m so glad you’re here. This first post is going to be introducing Purely Olivia and explaining why I started it. 🙂 I’m excited to begin, so let’s dive right in!

If you’re a reader of Writer’s Digest, my old blog, then you’re probably shocked or confused right now about this sudden change. I’ll do my best to explain.

All through the month of July I planned to change my blog’s name to Pageturner. It was an epic failure. As you can tell by reading this post, that didn’t work out. So I returned to blogging with my old name, even though I decided to change my main focus from bookish to lifestyle.

Still, in the back of my mind, I was always thinking of the dream blog. One I would have someday and it would be completely perfect and have the right name and great content. Then I realized, why not make it now?

Enter Purely Olivia.

I came up with this idea at random and fell in love with it instantly! (I hope you did too.) I think it sums up exactly what I’ll be posting about: everything me. Books, reading, writing, food, beauty, lifestyle in general.

As for the major switch from Weebly to WordPress- that has nothing to do with me disliking Weebly. Weebly was great and supported a blog I loved for two years. But I continued to see features on WordPress blogs that I wanted, too. The strikethrough (which I used giddily earlier in this post), ability to “like” other bloggers’ posts, a search engine, more customizing options. Oh, and THE SMILEY FACES. 🙂 😉 Guys, I wanted these so bad. WordPress just seemed like the best option for me, though I enjoyed Weebly too.

Now, for some information on Purely Olivia.

What I’ll Post About

I already touched on this a little. Just anything I want to! That’s part of the excitement of starting this new blog. There are no restraints put on me! 😉  If you read Writer’s Digest because it was a bookish blog, don’t worry. I’ll still be doing plenty of posts about reading and writing. If you wanted something different too, like me, then great! That’s offered too.

When I’ll Post

I’m continuing the blogging schedule I started just a couple of weeks ago on Writer’s Digest. Every Monday, you can count on a post here! I may increase the posts, but I’m starting small for now. (Also, I thinking of doing a subscriber-button-thingy here. Would you guys like that?)

Hang in There!

Since I’ve never used WordPress before, I’m still figuring things out. It’s pretty complicated, at least to me. I’m also trying to find a perfect theme and font and everything else- so things will probably be frequently changing around for a while. Thanks for bearing with me! 🙂

I’m so happy to start this new journey and fresh beginning, and I hope you’ll come along with me for the ride. I would love to hear from you in the comments! What do you think about this change? Are you excited for Purely Olivia? If you’re a WordPress blogger, do you have any advice or tips for me on working the editor, how to make different smiley faces, etc.? (There’s so much I don’t know!) See you there.

  1. Ahh!! So exciting! I can’t wait to see more posts from purely Olivia. Great name by the way.
Ah, WordPress is so confusing if you don’t know what you’re doing. I’ve been working on my blog and I’m so glad I have Izel to help me. I’d be completely lost otherwise. The best of luck to you! Hopefully you’ll figure it all out.
I plan on hopefully having my blog finished by September 1 cause I think that would be a good blog birthday.

    • Thanks! I’m so glad you like it! 🙂 I’m sure once I get the hang out it, WordPress will be a breeze, but right now I’m still just trying to figure out all the buttons. So I feel you. Thanks for the luck 😉
YAY! I’m so excited for your blog. I’ll be counting down the days until September 1st now!

      • I don’t know if it’s the same with your design. But with mine I just had to go to widgets and add an email subscriber thing. Haha. I’m pretty sure I make no sense. I’d love to actual follow your blog. I had Izel’s help with most of my stuff. She guided me with everything. I struggled with everything at first but now I’ve somewhat got the hang of things. It’s pretty easy once you figure out what to do.
I know! I am too. I’ve already got my first post finished ;). I need to start working on the rest. I’m finally just doing it. It’s nice to know I’ll have at least one other follower then ;p.

  2. Purely Olivia! I love it. I’d also like a subscriber-button-thingy, it would be great to have emails when you post something new! (I always wanted one with Writer’s Digest, because otherwise I’d miss your newest material.) 😉 Ah, wordpress. It’s my faaaave. A Prettier Web has some great and handy videos on YouTube concerning wordpress if you need help. (I’ll link her below.) And aren’t the smiley faces SO CUTE?? 🙂 😉 😀

Congrats on the fresh start and welcome, WordPress blogger!

Okay, I definitely want to look into that. I always wanted one for Writer’s Digest, but I could never figure out how. Reason #39484 to switch to WordPress! 😂
Thanks for the tip- I’ll check it out! Also, YESSSS. I’m so excited to use the smiley faces from now on! 🙂
      Thanks for your comment, Emily!

    • Yayayay! Congrats! 🙂 🙂

By the way, I haven’t been posting lately for a good reason. 😉 My posts won’t publish..I’m working on it but just wanted to let you know why. (Since obviously I can’t post a talking about it.) 😦

      Again, congratulations Brooke!

  3. […] Almost as far back as I can remember, I’ve wanted a blog. It may have started when I discovered Heather Vogel Frederick’s blog and began reading it frequently. From her blog I found many more! It took a lot of begging, but eventually I started my old blog, Writer’s Digest. You can read about what motivated me to begin this blog in this post! […]
