Ways to Start the New Year Right

Hi everyone! ๐Ÿ˜€

It’s been January for 16 days, but if you still haven’t woken up and realized it’s 2017, this post is for you. In January, you can plan and think ahead for the eleven months stretching out in front of us. I’m an organized person who likes to think ahead- so today I’ve compiled 5 days to start your 2017 right!

Make Goals/Resolutions

Most people have probably already done this, maybe on New Year’s Eve or January 1st. But if you haven’t, it’s a great way to organize the months ahead. You’re more likely to accomplish things during the year if you make goals.

I recommend doing different categories- for example, School, Personal, Health, etc. Then you can make small goals for each broad umbrella.

I also know that some people would rather make a few very specific goals instead of many big ones, and that’s fine too. Whatever works best for you. ๐Ÿ™‚

When 2018 comes around (two thousand eighteen?!?) you can look at the goals you made a year ago and see how much you were able to achieve in 12 months.

Reorganize Surfaces

Now that we’ve put away the Christmas decorations and Valentine’s Day isn’t for a while, there aren’t any holidays on the horizon to decorate for. I found myself in this position when I was taking down my Christmas decor.

But then I realized it was the perfect time to reorganize the top of my desk, dresser, and windowsill! The best part about this is that it’s completely free.

Take out decorations that were in the back of your closet. Display some of your books. Make a DIY project. Even just switching around items you already had there will make your room feel much fresher than it did before.

Clean Out

This is not the most desirable thing to do.

However, it is necessary.

Just a few days ago, I cleaned out my closet. It wasn’t fun at the time, but now I feel so much better about my clothes! Not only can you weed out things you’ve outgrown or don’t wear, but you can also donate your clothes to people who need them. (If you’re feeling guilty about giving away a shirt you never wore, just remember that someone else is going to love it, and it’s better off with them than in the back of your closet.)

You can clean out anything and everything! Your desk, your bookshelf, that black hole under your bed…don’t worry, we all have one. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Organize Devices

The New Year is a good time to organize your devices. Go through the photos on your phone and delete ones that you don’t want. Maybe even upload your photos to a computer or flash drive so you have room for the new year’s photos.

Basically, just make sure everything on your phone is necessary and you want it all. That way you can start off with plenty of storage for the twelve months ahead!

Go Through Your Gift Cards

I don’t know about you all, but I have a giant stash of gift cards I’ve been given over the years. And I mean aย stash.

Yesterday I finally made myself sit down and call every single number on the back of every single card. I entered in every single 8 digit card number and pin! Trust me, I had the automatic message memorized by the time I was finished. ๐Ÿ™‚

Though it was boring at the time, it was very beneficial. I discovered many hidden gift cards and I have saved myself from spending a lot of money in the future

I hope you enjoyed this post! Do you use any of these methods? Are you going to start now? What do you do in preparation for the year ahead? See you in the comments!
