5 Books You Really, Really Need To Read This Fall

It’s fall.

You can smell it in the air, see it in the leaves changing colors, and taste it in the pumpkin-spiced everything. Fall is my favorite season, and it’s finally here!

I love seasonal book recommendations almost as much as I love fall. Today I’ll be sharing 5 books that you should be reading this fall! So pour yourselves a cup of tea or cocoa, curl up with a blanket, and get ready to add some books to your TBR. 😉

Back in May, I did a post like this for summer recommendations, and that inspired me to do this one, as well. Not to mention I’m completely obsessed with fall. Let’s get right into the post!

1. The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak

I’ve seen The Book Thief on fall reading lists before, but it more than deserves to be mentioned at least 30947530823098 times.

One of the characteristics that drew me to this book so much is the fact that the main character, Liesel Meminger, loves books. She loves to read. She is intrigued by words. So am I. Relating to a character is something that always gives me a strong bond to the book.

Set in Nazi Germany during World War ll, this is a wonderful historical fiction. I can guarantee that this book will give you all the feels- laughter, joy, but also heartbreak and loss. In my opinion, reading books that give you the feels is the best in fall, and that’s why I recommend The Book Thief as fall reading material.

2. Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Brontë

Surprisingly, I just read Jane Eyre this past summer. For a long time, I was intimidated by its length and tiny font and yikes I can’t do this and I pushed it aside.

Why did I ever do that?!?!

Once I finally started reading Jane Eyre, I couldn’t put it down. Jane herself is a superbly strong character, something that I love because who doesn’t love seeing strong females in books?? The plot is fascinating, and had so many unexpected plot twists. And of course, there’s Mr. Rochester. Only the best book romance of all time.

Jane Eyre is the perfect book to read on an overcast fall day, and her relationship with Mr. Rochester will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy on the inside. If you’ve been putting off reading this book, or even if you’ve already read it once before, I encourage you to pick it up this fall!

3. The Mysterious Benedict Society, by Trenton Lee Stewart

I have read and reread The Mysterious Benedict Society so many times it’s a wonder I haven’t turned into a book myself, actually.

This book follows the adventures of four unique children, each with special talents and interesting personalities that really set them apart from each other. In fact, every character in this whole book is clever and very individual.

One of the best parts is how witty the writing is! I’ve actually laughed out loud so many times while reading this book. Trenton Lee Stewart’s writing style is wonderful and definitely appeals to me.

When I first read this book, I was in elementary school. Even though I’m much older now, I still enjoy it just as much as I did then, and I feel like though it may not be classified as YA, it’s definitely a book worth reading. If you’re thinking it’s too young for you- trust me, I can guarantee you’ll still enjoy it.

4. Needle and Thread, by Ann M. Martin

Before I get started, let me just say that I’m not specifically recommending Needle and Thread. It’s a wonderful book, but it’s filling in the blank for whatever book feels like home to you.

With all the homey, cozy feelings fall brings, I love to reread. I love to return to books that have a special place in my heart. One of those such books is the Main Street series by Ann M. Martin, which I’ve read so many times and know like the back of my hand. Since Needle and Thread is the book set in fall, I picked it.

Find a book that you’ve always loved, a book with fond memories and a worn down, cherished cover, and read it this fall.

5. Alex & Eliza, by Melissa de la Cruz

I mentioned Alex & Eliza in my September TBR post, and since then I’ve gotten the chance to read it. Guys, I so recommend it.❤️

I’ll preface this with the fact that I have not seen the musical Hamilton performed, and while I have listened to some it of, I wouldn’t call myself obsessed. I didn’t know any of the storyline before I read this book, and it didn’t affect my understanding of it at all.

Alex & Eliza is just the sweetest love story. You get to read from both Alex and Eliza’s perspectives, which I really liked, and that added to the wonderfulness. Overall, it is just a perfect fall read that will leave you smiling. 😉
