Time is already flying too fast.
Not to be that cliché person who says 2018 is going by too fast, but time is going by too fast! I can’t believe that January is already almost over. Who gave February permission to come so fast?? not me.
As usual, I will be recapping my January as far as it went with books, my blog, and real life experiences. Let’s get to it!
Let’s just say that this year isn’t getting off to such an auspicious start for reading.
I’ve read four books. And apparently I’m only one book behind on my Goodreads challenge (which is to read 75 books this year)! But also, I just wish I had read more.
The best book I read this month was Kids Like Us, by Hilary Reyl. I’d read multiple rave reviews of it, and definitely ended up enjoying it a lot!
The worst book I read was 1984, by George Orwell. I just didn’t enjoy it. At. all. It may be because I had to read it for school…but really, I don’t think I would have liked it anyway! It made me want to rip out my hair, and not in a good way. Maybe if I try it again later I’d appreciate it more?
My Reading Goals for February:
- Read 5 books
- Finish the one I’m currently reading (Because You’ll Never Meet Me)
- Go to the library (
y’all my library books are like two months overdue) - CHOOSE READING MORE!! (over Netflix, social media, etc.)
Blogging wise, January was pretty good!
I stuck to my posting schedule, and you guys seemed to like the posts I did. My only slight issue is that I didn’t do many actual book themed posts?? And since this is a book blog, I wish I had worked more on getting more book content out. 😉
Posts I Did This Month:
- Welcome 2018 + The Year in Review + Polls // As you can guess, I summed up 2017 and rung in the new year with this post!
- 8 Thoughts Bookworms Have in the New Year // A hopefully relatable post about the interesting mind of a bookworm in January.
- A {Little} Peek in My Bullet Journal // I share alllll about my bullet journal in this one! Lots of photos and inspiration.
- The Liebster Award (The Second Time Around) // Get to know me better with this award post, wherein I answer a lot of questions about myself.
Usually I’d share some posts I enjoyed this month, and while I did enjoy a lot, I didn’t keep track of them…and it’d take forever to go through all of them again. XD If you loved any posts in particular this month, link them in the comments!
Goals for February:
- Back on my 2017 recap post, a lot of you voted on my polls that you’d like to see an updated bookshelf tour. I’m happy to oblige, and I’m hoping I can get that post up in February!
- Some kind of book-list post. We will see how that works out.
- Stay on blogging schedule.
- Consider making a blog survey.
Last Thing- A Poll for You!
Earlier this month, I really enjoyed writing my bullet journal post. My blog is mainly a book blog, but it got me thinking that I may want to branch out into a tad (not a lot) more lifestyle posts?? Here’s a poll so y’all can help me decide. 😉
HOW IS JANUARY ALMOST GONE. I do not understand.
For this “life recap,” I thought I’d do a currently style. So, lettuce begin.
Currently Listening To:
- HAMILTONHAMILTONHAMILTONHAMILTON WAY TOO MUCH HAMILTON
- Perfect, by Ed Sheeran. WHY is that song so PERFECT?!?!
- Anything on Reputation #ShamelessSwiftie
- Really nothing else?! Let’s be honest, I’ve been spending most of my waking hours listening to Hamilton.
Currently Watching:
- Friends (I’m on Season 7, almost 8)
- Ellen’s new game show! It’s hilarious.
Currently Wanting:
- A Tagalong.
- A lot of free books, please and thank you.
- For homework to suddenly be nonexistent!
Current January Memories:
- I went ice skating…being a dancer does not mean I can ice skate by the way! At. all.
- Fun memories with friends.
- Seeing The Greatest Showman and Forever My Girl- both A++ movies!
And that concludes my January! I’m a little sad that this year is already going by so quickly, but I’m excited to see what February brings. A fresh start of a new month is always really nice. 😉
How was your January? Have you read Kids Like Us or 1984? Would you want to see more lifestyle posts on my blog, and have you seen The Greatest Showman? Let’s chat in the comments!

I read 1984 when I was 14 and it was terrible! Just so terrible, I hated the book and characters and story. And I hope to never read it again.
I’m either listening to Ed Sheeran, Hamilton, or the Greatest Showman. They’re all so irresistible!

Right?! I’m so glad you shared my opinion, because I felt a little bad trash talking it. I actually screamed when I read the last sentence. It left me with nothing resolved and no good feelings, which is mainly why I didn’t like it!
YES YES YES! I almost put the Greatest Showman on my list. I love Rewrite the Stars especially. And, as always, Hamilton is the best. 🙂

Yay for February! January was good, but let’s get past as much winter as we can XD I’ve not read 1984, but I’ve heard it’s an interesting book. I’m not huge into that kind of dystopian stuff, so I see where you’re coming from. I think there’s a similar book by someone else in which nobody is allowed to have books O_O. In terms of cheap books, there is a website called thriftbooks.com and it has ridiculously low prices. I think it has textbooks!

Haha! Definitely. XD
1984 was interesting…but not my cup of tea. I have a lot to rant about regarding it, so maybe I’ll do a review of it? 😉
Omg! The book where no one is allowed to have books is called Fahrenheit 451, and it was actually one of the options I had when I had to read a dystopian book. I wish I had chosen it instead of 1984! I do want to read it at some point for sure.
Oh, yes! I looked at thriftbooks in the past, but I’d forgotten about it. Thank you, Catharine!

I love this style of review…maybe I’ve just never payed a lot of attention to it, but I was writing a review for January that I decided not to post because my month was boring (which is actually a terrible reason) but maybe I’ll try again with the reading, watching, and listening to…
anyways haha I also love Perfect by Ed Sheeran, I’ve been listening to it so so much!! And I took your poll 🙂
aahhh sorry for the long and ranting comment…great post though 🙂

Thank you, Em! 💞 That makes me happy to hear! I’d still love to read your January recap no matter how boring, haha.
Ahhh yes yes yes! I’ve also been enjoying the Perfect duet he does with Beyonce. The best word to describe that song is just…perfect.
I love long comments, don’t worry. 😉 Thank you for reading and taking my survey!

haha okay 🙂 I’ve only heard that version a few times…I need to add it to my playlist! And you’re welcome 😊

Omg, I feel ya about 1984. I hated reading that book. I don’t know why, it just wasn’t for me at all.
Good luck on your February goals! I’ll also be trying to choose reading more over Netflix, haha. I got a little lazy this month …
Btw, I tagged you for this: https://audreywritesabroad.com/2018/01/29/zodiac-signs-book-tag/

Ahh, same here! 1984 was most definitely not my kind of book. I’m really glad to see some people agree with me.😂
Thank you, Audrey! Best of luck with your goals, too. Choosing books instead of Netflix is one of the hardest things to do, but we can do it!
And, thank you for the tag! I really appreciate it and will go check it out right now.

I bought Tagalongs just the other day! Darn, if only I could hand you one through the screen. Oh my, I cannot skate at all either. AHH, another recommendation to see the Greatest Showman! It sounds amazing. I haven’t read 1984, but I have read Animal Farm!
LikeLiked by 1 person
Haha! Thanks anyway.😉 The Greatest Showman was phenomenal, you should definitely go see it! Oh, I heard Animal Farm is kinda similar to 1984, but I haven’t read it yet. Thank you for your comment, Annie!

I know, I’ve heard that so many times! It was okay. I didn’t love it, but I didn’t dislike it either. All the historical parallels kind of went over my head. You’re welcome!

Good to know! Honestly, since I kinda hated 1984 with a passion, I probably won’t read it. But, I don’t want to judge it ahead of time so maybe I will. 🙂

Ahaha I am SO glad that you’re listening to Hamilton now! It’s so much fun to get other people obsessed with it like I am. 😉 And ooh, I think that you should post whatever you want! If you want to do lifestyle posts, you should do them. (But I would like to see any post you write.) And oh yes, a bookshelf tour would be awesome! Hope your February is awesome! ❤

Me toooo! I feel so sad I missed out on Hamilton for like two (ish?) years. But I have it now, so it’s all good! 😉 Thanks for your thoughts! I want to keep it mainly a book blog for sure, just with a few more lifestyle posts thrown in than usual. Eep, I’m so excited to do a bookshelf tour… I hope your February is amazing, too! 💞

Omg I can’t believe I’ve been listening to Hamilton for the past two years?? Whoa. 🤤

Ohnoooo! 1984 has been a classic book that I’ve been wanting to read for a long, long time, and when people tell me they don’t like it, it makes me hesitate reading it!
CHOOSE READING MORE. YES. This is something I need to work on as well. I pull out my phone and I get sucked into the social-verse and can’t get out for some reason. It’s gotten a lot worse over the past couple of months. >.<
Ahhhhh I love the song "Perfect"! I've been listening to that quite often, as well as a VERY old favorite girl band called Wendy & Lisa, and their album "Eroica"! Pure 90s jams right there. And also listening to The Greatest Showman soundtrack! ❤
I definitely bought 4 boxes of Tagalongs last weekend. 😀

AHH, thank you so much for this incredibly wonderful comment, Rosie!💞I really appreciate it.
AGHJDIEJED 1984. If you’ve been wanting to read it for a while, I say go for it! Even if you don’t end up liking it, at least it will finally be off your TBR.
Same here!! And again, same here. I’m thinking seriously about deleting social media for a little bit and seeing if I can get more reading done that way. We’re all in this together. 😉
Yay for Perfect and Greatest Showman! I’ll have to check out Wendy & Lisa.
HAHA. Give me alll the Tagalongs.

Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed. 😉 HONESTLY I DON’T KNOW WHAT ELSE WE COULD ASK FOR. How Zac Efron and Zendaya ended up in a movie together I don’t know, but I’m so thankful it happened. I hope you get to see it soon! I also hope you have a great February as well.💕

Sorry you didn’t wind up liking 1984! I hope you at least got some good discussion out of it in class? That’s the only good thing about assigned books, because you’re so right that being forced to read stuff takes the fun out of it. Hopefully your February reading goes better!

That’s true, at least. 😉 No one in my class ended up liking it, either… And I know, right? I have enjoyed some assigned books but mostly I just don’t enjoy them. Thank you, and I hope your February is wonderful as well!
