Library Haul! // ft. Hyped Books & Much Pterodactyl Screeching…

Hello, everyone!

*waves into the Internet void* I’m so happy you found your way to Purely Olivia! 🙂 Today I’m going to be talking about the books I recently got at the library, many of which are books I’ve been meaning to read forever. Y’all, I’m so pumped for this post.

I haven’t been to the library forever, and I went this past weekend and got SO MANY wonderful books! All the books that have been checked out every other time I go to the library were there when I went. It was like Christmas came early, honestly.

So, in this post I’m going to be screaming about all the books I now get to read. And then hopefully we can talk about them in the comments if you’ve read them too. 😉

LOOK AT THIS BEAUTIFUL SIGHT. My heart.❤️

As you can see, I was able to pick up a lot of books that having floating around the blogosphere for the past few months! So a lot of them have been hyped for me, but that’s just made me more excited to read them. Below I’ll be sharing what I got and why, in no particular order.

1. The Hate U Give, by Angie Thomas {goodreads}

IMG_4059

I can’t explain how excited I am to finally pick this up! Nearly everyone has read it, and I’ve only seen good reviews. I’ve been wanting to read it for months now, but it’s been checked out of the library every time I go until now.

Lately I’ve been getting to more YA contemporaries that are less fluffy (though I do still enjoy fluffy ones 😉 ) and talk about more serious issues. Obviously, this one does that, and I’m looking forward to finally reading it.

2. Love, Hate, & Other Filters, by Samira Ahmed {goodreads}

I’ve also seen this one around a little bit! I’m looking forward to reading it because #OwnVoices and diversity!! But also because the plot looks amazing, I love the cover (and the title!) and it just all around looks like my kind of YA contemporary. Which is pretty much all YA contemporary, let’s be honest.

3. & 4. Turtles All the Way Down and The Fault in Our Stars, by John Green {goodreads & goodreads}

IMG_4099

I missed out on the original The Fault in Our Stars craze, so I’m joining in a little late. Up until recently I was never interested in reading a John Green book, until I read Paper Towns in early March and literally could NOT put it down. (Psst, more on that in a future post.)

Since I loved Paper Towns so much, I decided to go ahead and give The Fault in Our Stars a shot! *cheers for jumping on the bandwagon five years later* I also decided to check out Turtles All the Way Down, which is one of John Green’s recent books.

5. Challenger Deep, by Neal Shusterman {goodreads}

This book was actually recommended to me by Clara! (Thank you, Clara. 😉 ) I don’t know much about it, but it looks really intriguing. It deals with mental illness, and you as the reader are thrust into the mind of the main character, who is affected with schizoaffective disorder. I’m super interested in seeing how this book goes!

6. The Sun is Also a Star, by Nicola Yoon {goodreads}

IMG_4115.JPG

After I ending up loving Everything, Everything, I’ve been really wanting to read other books by Nicola Yoon! This one looks sweet and cute and a little fluffy, but that’s okay. Also, can we admire the cover?? It’s 110% the main reason I’m reading this.

7. This is How it Happened, by Paula Stokes {goodreads}

Y’ALL. This book is amazing.

Before I went to the library, I’d never even heard of it! It was the only book I checked out that wasn’t previously on my TBR, and I just picked it up randomly off the shelf. Needless to say, I read it all in one day. I could not put it down.

It was an amazing YA that dealt with some topics like Internet culture/social media shaming, as well as some serious driving topics. The story follows a girl who was in a devastating car accident that killed her boyfriend- and she was driving. I couldn’t stop reading, and I was completely sucked into the story. 10/10 recommend it to everyone!

8. A Court of Thorns and Roses, by Sarah J. Maas {goodreads}

IMG_4107

I decided to finally jump on the bandwagon and try out A Court of Thorns and Roses. After hearing so much about this series, I’m excited (and a little nervous?? so many expectations) to read the first book.

I’m always hesitant to read fantasy, but I end up loving it once I’m reading it. I’m looking forward to seeing what I think about ACOTAR!

9. American Panda, by Gloria Chao {goodreads}

Honestly, this book looks so. good. It starts with the cover (which I didn’t take a picture of, but it’s absolutely adorable), then continues to the plot summary (which looks incredibly intriguing) and I even love the font of the book. I’m that person.

I can’t wait to read this one! I’m excited to read the Taiwanese-American rep as well.

10. They Both Die At the End, by Adam Silvera {goodreads}

IMG_4062

Well, is this the BIGGEST SPOILER EVER or what.

In all honestly, I have absolutely no idea what to expect with this book. Like, I thought it would be contemporary but it was in the sci-fi section of my library? Apparently they die but then why would the other tell you?? IS MY HEART GOING TO BREAK FOREVER???

So, of course, I shall answer all these questions by reading it.

And that’s my library haul! It’s a lot more books than I usually check out, but since I have spring break soon, I figured I’d have a lot more time to read. If you couldn’t already tell, I’m beyond ecstatic with the books I checked out, and I can’t wait to read each and every one of them. 🙂

Have you read any of these? What did you think of them? Do you love libraries as much as me? Let’s chat in the comments! Let’s chat in the comments!

  1. ooh, i’ve heard of all these titles before! they’re really popular.
    i’m not sure if you’re sensitive about swear words or adult content? but just heads up if you didn’t know 😛 i’m pretty sure all these have at least a few swear words, and The Sun Is Also a Star has some sexual content. They Both Die At the End has LGBT+ content.

    would love to see book reviews on these books though!!

    • Haha, I feel like I jumped on the hyped/popular books bandwagon for this entire post.😂
      Thanks for the heads up! I’d prefer to read books without swear words or adult content, but it’s unfortunately pretty prominent in most books unless they’re MG. I’m looking forward to reading the LGBT+ rep in They Both Die at the End, though!

      Thank you, Carol! 💞I’m hoping to do a mini review-type post with some of the books I got!

      • haha ;D yeah I know, it’s pretty hard to find a YA contemporary or fantasy without swear words and such. so when I DO find one I’m like… yesss!
        looking forward to it! 🙂

  2. YOU WENT TO THE LIBRARY!!! (Let’s pause for a moment of celebration- hurrah!
    Oh my goodness, I literally have The Hate U Give checked out right now. I’m pumped to read
    it!
    The Sun is Also a Star is pretty good. I would say that translates into three stars.
    Okay, I checked out They Both Die At the End from the library a while back but returned it before I finished it. So I still don’t know whether or not they both die! But I’m pretty sure they do.

    • I DID! Thank you for the moment of celebration. 😉
      I can’t want to read the The Hate U Give either! I’m saving it for my spring break so I can hopefully binge read it, haha. Good to know about The Sun is Also a Star- hopefully I end up enjoying it. Did you like Everything, Everything?
      I feel like they die…and I don’t want that to happen so I’m slightly scared to read it. XD

      • Haha, you’re very welcome.
        My spring break is right now, and I just started it today! Binge reading it is a good idea.
        I haven’t read Everything, Everything, but I’m pretty sure it’s on my TBR.

  4. OMG YOU HAVE AN AMAZING LIBRARY I JUST WANT TO LIVE IN IT. *flails for you* Also a ton of these are my utter favourites!! And They Both Die At The End is actually a bit sci-fi? Because they have the whole way-to-know-what-day-you-die company thingie, which isn’t very normal.😂But it also reads pretty much like a contemporary. ALSO I LOVE IT. *ahem* And THUG and Turtles and TFIOS are all amazing too. ❤ so glad you get to read all this amazingness!

    • AHH THANK YOU, SO DO I. It’s a wonder I haven’t moved in yet.😂
      That makes sense about They Both Die at the End! I was over here wondering why it was in the sci-fi section, overlooking the fact that they know they’re going to die.😂
      Eep I’m so happy to hear you enjoyed a lot of these books! That makes me even more excited to read them. Thanks for your comment, Cait!💞

    • I love the library so much, too! I mean, it’s literally a room full of FREE BOOKS, can it get any better?? I am SO looking forward to reading They Both Die at the End!! I’m preparing myself for the emotional death I’m going to encounter when I finish it.💔 I’ve heard The Sun is Also a Star is good too! Hopefully I’ll include it in a mini review post so I can share my thoughts on it. Thank you Malanie for your comment!😊

  6. Oooooh Girl, the ACOTAR bandwagon is a good one to jump on! Push through the first book, it really isn’t for everyone, it took me a bit to get into it! Book 2 and 3 really make the series! They Both Die at the End is on my To-Buy list! It looks so good!

    • That makes me so happy to hear! *jumps up and down* *screeches* Okay, I’ll definitely read the next ones in the series. 💪🏼(Unless I completely hate it, but I doubt that.) I know, They Both Die at the End looks SO GOOD!!

  7. Aahh you have such a great library! I hope you love THUG as much as I did — I found it so incredibly poignant important. 💕 And I haven’t read any of the other books?? (Wait, never mind, there’s Challenger Deep — which I loved — and TFIOS — which I did not love 😂) I really want to read American Panda and TBDATE though!

    Also, just wanted to kinda give you a warning? I haven’t and will never be reading the ACOTAR series, but literally everyone I know who has read it says that it’s more New Adult than Young Adult (because of explicit and/or many sex scenes). Just wanted to let you know! 😊

    • I’m so lucky to live next to it! And ahhh I’m SO excited to read THUG. I’m saving it for my spring break and I can’t wait.😂I’m so glad to hear you liked Challenger Deep, I’m looking forward to that as well!! Omg I already finished American Panda and I loved it. I hope you get to read it soon!

      Thanks for the warning! I have stopped reading books before because of explicit content *coughMORTALINSTRUMENTScough* so I can see myself putting it down if it’s just horrible. I just wanted to give it a try, hopefully it ends up being okay! Thanks again for the warning, and your comment!❤️

      I’ve heard a few people say the second book is a lot better! That definitely gives me the motivation to get through the first one. Thank you for the comment, Caro!💞
