Library Haul // ft. contemporaries galore (!!)

It’s no secret that I love the library.

One of the best things about summer is that I’m able to go to the library more often. And when I do go, I actually end up reading the books I got, and it makes me very happy!

A ton of the books I got are contemporaries that have been on my TBR for ages, so I’m really excited to see if y’all have read them and what your thoughts were.

Oh, and I’m planning to do a mini review post of all the books I mention in today’s haul in the upcoming weeks, so if you’re interested in knowing my thoughts, that’s coming. 😉 As is a mini reviews post for my last library haul.

Here’s an overview of all the books! This haul contains many gorgeous covers (as expected with contemporaries XD) and honestly the spines are gorgeous too?? Who knew the spines of books could be so aesthetically pleasing. Now, let’s get into the explanation of each book I got!

1. Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda, by Becky Albertalli {goodreads}

How. The question is, how I have not read this book.

It’s such an iconic book that has so much hype surrounding it- and it has a movie now, which I’m still dying to see. I’m beyond excited to read this book, and to finally watch the movie (which I couldn’t watch before because of my book-before-movie rule).

It’s been checked out every time I went to the library, but by some wonderful coincidence it wasn’t checked out this time. I can’t believe my luck! I really hope this book is as amazing as everyone else said it was.

2. Girl in Pieces, by Kathleen Glasgow {goodreads}

Can we just take a second to admire this cover? God bless YA contemporary cover designers.🙌🏼 And please ignore my vampire-white hand.

But it wasn’t just the cover that drew me into this book. The Goodreads summary is incredibly intriguing. It gives you just enough information to make you curious, but not enough detail…leaving you desperate to know the full story.

I already can’t wait to get to know Charlie, the main character, and learn her backstory and see what happens throughout this book.

3. Girl Out of Water, by Laura Silverman {goodreads}

This book looks like such an adventure, and I’m so interested to see what happens.

The main character, Anise, is spending the summer in Nebraska instead of in her home in California. As she takes care of her younger cousins and meets a new guy, she drifts further and further away from her friends back in Santa Cruz.

Not only am I looking forward to the family dynamics in this story, I’m also interested in the summer romance and seeing how she deals with being away from her friends. I can’t wait!

4. Getting the Girl, by Markus Zusak {goodreads}

This is the only book I got on a whim, because I saw it on the shelf and got so excited that another book by Markus Zusak exists.

But of course, it’s the third book in a series.

I’m not sure how I didn’t realize it this is why series should all have giant numbers on the spines, but now I’m in a quandary about what to do. I’m not entirely sure if I’ll read it or not, since I don’t want the rest of the series to be ruined for me.

5. The Last Summer of the Garrett Girls, by Jessica Spotswood {goodreads}

I found out about this book from this review of Annie’s and instantly knew I wanted to read it. It looks adorable!

Not only is the cover the cutest ever, but it’s a SISTER STORY. Y’all. Reading about sisters (and sibling relationships in general) is the best thing ever. From what I’ve heard about this book, I’m getting the Penderwicks kind of vibe. 😉

I can’t wait to read this book and witness the sister relationships, diversity, and pop culture references for myself.

6. Not the Girls You’re Looking For, by Aminah Mae Safi {goodreads}

Yet another adorable cover! *sighs with happiness*

This seems like the perfect light and summery read, and I’m excited to follow the adventures of Lulu and her best friends (it looks like there’ll be friendship dynamics in here) and watch as the story takes a more serious turn.

The Goodreads summary doesn’t say much, so I don’t know exactly what happens, but that makes me want to read it even more. I’m so curious to find out!

7. Mariam Sharma Hits the Road, by Sheba Karim {goodreads}

I LOVE ROAD TRIP STORIES.

Not only do I love road trips in real life, but I love road trips in books. It’s just so interesting to see where the characters stop, who they meet, and what they do along the way. It makes me want to get in a car and drive across the country on a whim. XD

This book is 1092309% perfect for summer, and I’m pumped to go on the road trip along with Mariam, Umar, and Ghazala.

8. You’ll Miss Me When I’m Gone, by Rachel Lynn Solomon {goodreads}

This book deals with some heavy topics. Adina and Tovah, fraternal twins, are about to take a genetic test that will let them know if they’ve inherited their mother’s Huntington’s Disease. One of them tests positive, and the other is negative.

From the Goodreads blurb, it doesn’t sound like they have a very good relationship. I’m curious to see how their relationship changes (will it get better? or worse?) once they find out which one of them will someday have Huntington’s.

I think there will (hopefully) be a lot of character development in this, and I’m looking forward to seeing that all unfold.

And that’s all for this library haul! I came away with all contemporaries, and I can’t wait to read them all (and later review them) this July. 🙂 I had the best time writing this post and taking all these pictures (even though it started to RAIN on me and I had to hurry inside to spare the precious books).
