Someone please help me slow down time.
I’m at such a loss for how this year is over halfway over, and I can’t believe that summer is coming to a close (at least for me) this month. Wasn’t it just May? But, July was a great month and I can’t wait to talk about it in today’s post! 🙂
It was almost like I was back in my glory days of 2016 (when I actually had time to read), because I actually read books! And…watched a lot of Netflix…and read a lot of blog posts…and wrote a lot of posts…but mostly, I read books!
Today I’m going to be summing up my month, talking about what I read and did and also talking about my goals for August. Let’s get into it!
I’m still in shock over the fact that I actually read books.
I’m not behind on my Goodreads challenge anymore (though we all know that’s not going to last long) and I read a lot of books that I’d highly recommend to you all. 🙂
I’m hoping to talk about a lot of these books on my blog in August! I want to do a mini reviews book with the books from my library haul and some of the other contemporaries I read this month. There were a lot.
I also did a whole Harry Potter reread this month?! It was so amazing to get back into the wizarding world. I want to do a post talking a little about my reread and how some of my opinions of Harry Potter have changed, so let me know if you’d be interested in that!
I’m currently reading Hold Still, with plans to read The Raven Cycle series next.
How I Did On My July Goals:
- Read 15 books ✅ I THINK I’M DREAMING BECAUSE THAT IS A CHECK MARK I SEE
- Go to the library ✅ I went multiple times, due to reading so much
- Read 3 books from summer TBR ❌ two. almost there.
- Try something new ✅ I read fantasy. and I think that’s different enough to count!
My August Goals:
- Read 10 books (I’ll be starting back at school, but have the first half of the month still)
- Go to the library
- Read something from my summer TBR
- Start doing reviews on Goodreads (I’ve never done this, but I should)
- Look into Netgalley
There were quite a few blog happenings this July. 😉
First off, I changed around a few things on my design again! I think I’ve finally landed on one that I really love and feel like I want to keep around for a while. Also, shoutout to my sister for taking new profile pictures for me. XD You know you’ve got a good sister when she takes pictures of you holding books over your face in the backyard.
I tried to be really active and stick tightly to my schedule this month, since it’s my first (and only) entire full month of summer vacation. And I succeeded?? That resulted in me posting a lot this month, which I really loved and just made me feel happy.
What I Posted:
- June Recap + Welcome, July // Just your average recap post, just like this one but with a lot of different words. XD
- Why I Still Love Dystopians + A Dystopian Review! // I loved talking about my love for dystopians and my love for the amazing book I got to review!
- 5 Reasons to Bullet Journal + A Peek At My July Spreads // I shared more of my bullet journals and gave my top 5 reasons for bullet journaling.
- Library Haul // ft. contemporaries galore // Yet another one of my library hauls, featuring quite a lot of contemporaries.
- The Sunshine Blogger Award // I finally participate in tags again (!!) and answer a lot of questions about myself and other bookish things.
- Mini Reviews // 5 Contemporaries Perfect for Summer // The long promised mini reviews from my last library haul.
- 10 Ways to Enjoy Blogging // Collab with Anna Pastelle // Such a fun collab with a fellow blogger in which we share 10 easy ways to love blogging even more!
- What Does It Take For Me to Cry Over Books // + Books I Cried Over // A discussion about getting emotional over books.
- 6 Hyped Fantasy Books I Really Want to Read // Me actually branching out and talking about books other than contemporaries? We’re all still shocked.
- 10 Struggles All Bookworms Understand // A very fun collab in which Rose and I talked about struggles we as bookworms face.
A quick posting update! I’m going back to school about halfway through August, so my summer blogging schedule will be ending halfway through the month.
For the first part of the month, I’ll keep posting on Monday and Thursday, but in the second half I’ll go back to just posting on Monday. Maybe someday I’ll be able to balance school, dance, and blogging twice a week, but sadly now is not that time. “AND I ASK MYSELF WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU HAD MORE TIMEEEEE…” -Eliza Hamilton
Posts I Loved Around the Blogosphere:
- Lu talks about rating books too highly and the struggle is real and SO relatable
- Abigail shared 5 reasons traveling improves your writing, and just yes yes yes
- The temperamental writer presented a 500% foolproof plan for book to movie adaptations, and I’m still amazed at its ingenuity
- Lily explains why we need more confident female characters, and it’s absolutely beautiful and well worth a read
- Marie listed 4 things book blogging brought her, and I couldn’t agree more
- Annie shared an update on her scientific and very interesting bookish experiment
- Aimee describes all the necessities for reading in public & it’s just such a fun post
There were of course SO many other great posts I read! I need to start keeping better track next month…
How I Did On My July Goals:
- Stick to summer blogging schedule ✅
- Plan posts ahead of time ✅ can this be?!
- Collab(s) ✅ I did two collabs this month, and I have plans for more soon!
- Special review ✅ this was the review of Audrey’s book!
- Post about blogging ✅ this was accomplished with the help of Anna!
- Mini reviews post ✅
- Work on improving featured images ❌ I didn’t. oops.
- Blog hop more! (discover new blogs) ✅ I discovered a lot of fun new blogs!
My August Goals:
- Mini reviews post (for the library haul I did this month)
- Harry Potter post
- Collabs that I’ve been planning (!!)
- A very special surprise that shall not be named yet 😉
- 2nd blog birthday celebration post
- Stick to schedule
- Stay caught up with reading other blogs
I can only hope that August is half the blogging month July was! I have some exciting things planned, and I can’t wait to see how they go. *cheers* *evil cackle*
July was my only entire, full, 100% month of vacation. I would say that it actually didn’t fly by as fast as I thought it was going to! A few notable things happened-
- I saw my favorite band in concert, and even though they were only the warm-up act because they’re not too famous yet and we didn’t have VIP tickets, it was still amazing and I love them dearly.
- I FINISHED GLEE. If you have seen Glee, please scream about it with me in the comments. I have so much to scream about.
- Yesterday was Harry Potter’s birthday! And I can’t believe this made my list, but it’s pretty cool, and we all know my obsession with Harry Potter.
- Just hanging out with friends was so much fun! I did a lot of that this month and also Netflix watching and reading. And that’s about all.
Next month, I start back at school (which I’m actually okay with? minus the homework part) and also start back at dance (which I’m more than okay with) and I have the first half of August for vacation still. *deep breath* Hopefully it will be a good month!
There ya go, my July in a very large nutshell. 🙂
I hope you all had amazing months, and that August treats you well, too! Whether it’s still summer for you, or if it’s winter where you live, I hope it’s a good one.
How was your month? What was the best book you read? Are you going back to school soon, too? I’d love to chat with you in the comments.

Whoa, how you managed to read so many books??? Especially the whole HP series?? I spend the first 3 weeks of July putting OotP off because it’s HUGE and I’m scared, and the last week of July with “just do it” mentality 😌 I hope August will be an awesome month for you and I hope you’ll have an amazing school year ahead!

Let’s just say I spent a lot of time in my room reading this month. 😉 Good luck with your reread! Order of the Phoenix is definitely pretty daunting, but once you start reading it you don’t want it to end. Thank you so, so much, the same for you!💛

I'm so happy that July was such a good month for you, I'm spotting so many incredible reads here! I can't wait to hear your thoughts on You'll Miss Me When I am Gone, as well as Not the girls you're looking for, girls out of water and the garrett girls 😀 Such a great list of books ahhhhhhh I love it.
I hope you'll have a fantastic August! ❤ ❤

Haha! I guess many book bloggers can relate to someone taking pictures of them holding books over their face at some point.😂Ahh, thank you so much, Marie!
I can’t wait to share my thoughts on all of them! I have so many good things to say and I’m really excited to do a post about them soon. *squeals*
Thank you, I hope your August is amazing, too!❤️

Oh my god, Olivia, you read so many books this month!!! Congrats on that, I know you’ve struggled in the past to read during the month haha. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Simon Vs. (though I think I might have read somewhere that you liked it but I forgot 🙈) and A Thousand Perfect Notes! And good luck with going back to school and dance — I can feel it coming and I really don’t think I’m ready. (But I do kind of agree that I would be mostly fine with school if we didn’t have homework!) Hope you have a great August! ❤

Ahh, thank you so much, May! You’re so sweet oh my goodness.💓Haha, maybe I commented that I loved it somewhere? BUT YES, I DID LOVE IT. Now I need to go see the movie…ATPN was amazing, too! Thank you- same to you with school & dance starting back up soon. 🙂 (Okay, yes! Like I love to learn but I just hate all the stress.) I hope you have a great month too, best of luck with everything!

Honestly, where has all the time gone? How is it AUGUST already??? *hyperventilates* I’m also going back to school this month, which means I must panic because how will I have time to read all the books I want to read??
Congratulations on meeting so many of your goals! Ahh, I want to re-read the Harry Potter series again sometime soon. I look forward to your post on it! It’s always interesting to see how people’s opinions of books change as they get older.
Here’s to hoping for a wonderful August!

Thank you!❤️
Ohh, I hope you get to reread HP soon! It’s always so amazing to go back into the wizarding world, especially if it’s been a while since you’ve visited. 😉 Yay, I’m really happy to hear you’re excited for that post, so am I!
Thank you, and I hope you have a wonderful August as well!

I’m glad to see you had a great month! You read so many books this month, that’s incredible! I really want to read A Thousand Perfect Notes soon. What was your favourite book you read this month? Also that’s so cool that you got to see a band you love in concert! This is so coincidental because tomorrow I’m going to a Taylor Swift concert in Toronto! 😊

Thank you, Sissi!💓I hope you get to read ATPN, it was incredible. Ohh, that’s such a difficult question, it’s hard to choose! I think probably ATPN, The Last Summer of the Garrett Girls, or Simon Vs. I’m so indecisive, I can’t narrow it down to one… XD Oh my goodness, that’s going to be amazing! You’ll have to let me know how the concert is, I’m going to the reputation tour when she comes to my city in a few months. Ahh, I hope it’s “the most fun you ever had!”🤗

Hopefully I can read it soon! Ooh looks like you loved a lot of these books, that’s awesome.

Agh, 2019? I haven’t watched Glee, but I’ve heard good things about it. What do you think you’re going to watch now since you finished it? That’s so exciting you saw your favorite band! Yep, I’m going back to school in August too- August 26 to be exact. July was a pretty good reading month- one good book I read was Absolutely American- but I think August is going to be way better. I have so, so many library books in my possession right now that I am very excited about.

I know right! Oh, I have so many good things to say about Glee, I highly recommend it. 🙂 I’m currently at a loss for what to watch next, but I’m thinking maybe Gossip Girl? I’m not sure, let me know if you have any recommendations. Ahh, school! August 26th isn’t that bad, mine is August 16th. :// I’m glad it was a good reading month for you, and I’ll have to look up Absolutely American! Ooh, what books are you really excited for? I hope you have an amazing August!

Recommendation taken. :)) Oh, Gossip Girl! I haven’t watched it, but I’m pretty sure one of the actors from the show went to my high school. Okay, I’ve watched zero shows (besides Disney Channel and cooking and I guess now k-dramas), so I’ve got nothing here. Some I want to watch are Sherlock, Parks and Rec, and Friends. Oh, yikes- but I would actually rather start early and end early than late. OH get ready, here’s some: City of Brass, The Hazel Wood, American Panda, and two I’ve already read: City of Blades and Red Seas Under Red Skies. I’m on a fantasy run right now. You too!

Yay! WHOA, that’s so cool. Haha, besides Netflix I mostly watch HGTV and cooking too. XD Ooh, I love Friends! I should watch Parks and Rec, thank you for the recommendation. Those sound so good! I really loved American Panda, and I haven’t read any of the others. I hope they’re amazing!

Holy smokes girl!! Congrats on 15 books ❤ I can't believe you finished Glee too! I think I stopped the reason where they graduated high school because I wasn't loving the new people. I hope you can continue spending time with friends before you get busy again because sometimes that's honestly such a relaxing detox. Let's kick butt in August!

Ahh, thank you so much, Tiffany!💓Oh my goodness, I love Glee. I definitely get leaving after season 3, the first three seasons are personally my favorite because it’s the original cast, but they did do a great job at bringing back the old cast a lot (some were even still main characters in college), and of course some of original cast hadn’t graduated yet, so they were still around. 🙂 Thank you so much, Tiffany, and I hope you have an amazing August!

I’m currently on the first season of Glee! It’s so good so far but I keep getting caught up watching Scandal. I just finished the third season of Scandal last night, so I’m going to go on a Glee binge.
And all the love for Harry Potter! I love those books and want to do a reread sometime.
And you read so much in July! CONGRATS! And I’m so excited to go back to school when my life is more normal and scheduled, ha! Good luck with your August reads! Also, Goodreads is fun and Netgalley is great!

AHHH, Glee! Let me know your thoughts throughout the episodes, I’m more than happy to scream about it with you. 😉
You should! It’s the BEST to reread because it just brings back all the happy memories and magic.
Thank you, Elizabeth! Okay yes, me too, I just can’t wait for some organization in my life. XD Thanks again, I hope you have an amazing month!❤️

You read nineteen books in July I’M SCREAMING!!! I’m also reading “Not the Girls You’re Looking For” and so far, I’m enjoying it. How is the end of Glee, by the way? I’m stuck on season three but not sure if it’s worth continuing past season four since some friends say it degrades in quality afterward. I hope school and dance go well and don’t overwhelm you! Also, thank you so much for shouting out my post on traveling! I squealed when I saw that ^.^ <33

AHH, THANK YOU ABIGAIL!💗I really enjoyed Not the Girls You’re Looking For, and I hope you love it as well. For Glee: I think the first three seasons will always be my favorites because it’s the entire original cast, but it’s so worth it to continue on. Some of the original cast (Artie, Tina, Blaine, Sam) don’t graduate yet since they were only freshmen when the show started, and Rachel and Kurt (and mostly Santana?) stay main characters, and all the other ones still make frequent appearances. Plus, I really liked the new people, too. Sorry for the extremely long explanation, but basically, yes, I think it’s worth it to continue on. 😉 Thank you so much, I hope you have a great month! And of course, I loved your post.

The book is going pretty great– I’m halfway through! Also, I just realized we’re not friends on Goodreads and I should probably remedy that soon? I didn’t realize Artie, Tina, Blaine, and Sam were freshman the first season! I suppose I’ll continue on, then. For now, I have to finish season three of Downton Abbey (I know what’s coming and I’M NOT PREPARED). <33

Yay! I’m glad you’re enjoying it. Oh, YES, let me go find you on Goodreads. 😉 That makes me so happy to hear you’re going to continue on! Brittany also stays at the school, and tons of the graduating seniors have storylines of their own, so it’s far from a new cast of characters. I really want to watch Downton Abbey, I wish it was on Netflix! I hope you enjoy the rest of it!
