September Recap // I’m Back From Hiatus, Giveaway Winner, & It’s My Fave Month!

It’s finally my favorite month of the year.

After the rainy, stressful month that was September, October has never felt so amazing. It’s officially time for everything pumpkin spice, fall weather, my birthday, and a lot of other exciting things too. 😉

I’m so excited to be back from my small hiatus (I’ve been gone since mid-September) and I’m looking forward to talking about the books I read, the winner of my giveaway from all the way back in August, and just generally screaming about everything going on this October.

Without further ado, let’s get into the post!

Every book I read this month was a reread*, and I’m kind of loving it.

I absolutely adore reading new books and I’m hoping I’ll do just that in this upcoming month, but it was nice to have a relaxed, rereading month filled with some of my favorite comfort books. 🙂

*except for one book, but we’re not counting it because it was for school, okay?

This huge, month long Percy Jackson read started because I picked up The Mark of Athena just wanting some Percabeth, and it turned into me rereading the last books of the Heroes and Olympus and then rereading the entire first series, because Percy Jackson is sassy and amazing and Rick Riordan is fantastic and all the characters have my entire heart and IT’S JUST THAT GOOD, Y’ALL.

Then I read My Name is Asher Lev for school (it was okay, but I never like required reading) and reread The Last Summer of the Garrett Girls. The first time I read that was July, which was only two months ago, so if that doesn’t tell you how much I loved it, then I don’t know what will. XD

All in all, taking into account that I was slumping in every other aspect of my life this month, it wasn’t a bad reading month! I’m hoping that October is a lot better, though.

September was not a good blogging month, y’all.

It was quite the opposite of good, in fact. Not only did I take a hiatus from posting, but I also took a hiatus from reading other blogs, too, which wasn’t my original intention. I just got so busy with school and dance, that I hardly had time to even remember that WordPress existed, much less spend time commenting or reading posts.

I just wanted to apologize for being so absent from the blogosphere this month, and in future months I’m going to work on time management! I won’t be giving up homework time or dance or anything in order to blog, but I will be trying to use my free time more wisely….I really missed interacting with everyone while I was gone, and I don’t want to go MIA again, at least not for a while.

Thank you all for sticking with me, even when I didn’t comment on your posts or post on my blog, and basically dropped off the face of the blogosphere. Y’all are the best. 😉

What I Posted:

I definitely didn’t post very much, but since I was on hiatus for most the month, it’s understandable. Now, here’s the part in the post where I’d love to share the posts I read this month around the blogosphere but…I hardly read any.

me @ myself right now

I feel really sad about that, since talking with everyone and reading everyone’s amazing posts is always the highlight of my day, but sadly it just didn’t happen this month. Since it’s likely I missed it, feel free to link your favorite post of yours of the month in the comments and I’d love to read it. 🙂

How I Did on September Goals:

  • Another Harry Potter post ❌ That is definitely coming this month!
  • A tag post ✅
  • Stick to schedule ❌ Haha…not in the least
  • Keep track of posts I read that I love ❌
  • Writing update ❌ I can do that this month, if you guys would like to see it!

August Goals:

  • Stay on blogging schedule
  • Writing update
  • Harry Potter post
  • Book reviews?! Maybe?!
  • KEEP TRACK OF POSTS I LOVED SO I CAN MENTION THEM
  • Stay on top of reading posts in the blogosphere

And now, for the part of the post we’ve all been waiting for….the giveaway winner!

I did this giveaway way back in August for my second blog birthday, and had to postpone it due to my hiatus, so announcing the winner is long overdue, and I thank you for all your patience. XD

Note: If you are the winner, I will contact you within 24 hours of this post going live. If you do not respond within 48 hours of me sending that email, I will redraw and pick another winner. Thank you for understanding!

Without further ado, the winner is….

Well, can I just say that I’m sincerely glad September is over.

I’ve never liked September that much, since it usually serves as a transition month for me. It’s the month in between when I start school and my favorite month, and for both of those reasons, it always drags by. I usually feel really unmotivated and this September wasn’t much of an improvement.

There weren’t many happenings this month, but here are a few of the major things that went on:

  • Homecoming! My school’s homecoming was in September, and as usual, it was a lot of fun. I mean, what’s not fun about taking pictures and eating out with your friends?! I didn’t get to go to the football game because of dance, but it’s okay.
  • Lots and lots of dance. I definitely underestimated how much a commitment dance would be this year! I love it, and wouldn’t have it any other way, but let’s just say I practically live at the dance studio. Still, it’s been a lot of fun having rehearsals for our winter concert this month.
  • Hanging out with friends. I was able to make specific plans to hang out with friends a few times on the weekends, which was really fun!
  • Having Hamilton on repeat. I’ve been obsessed with Hamilton for almost a year now, but this month especially it was my constant jam. IT’S SO GOOD, OKAY.

September was okay…but October is my favorite month of the year by far and so far it has a lot of things going for it. 😉 It’s my birthday month, The Hate U Give movie is coming out, I’m seeing my favorite band in concert (!), and so many other things. I have high hopes that it’s much better than September!

And that concludes my September! This was a little longer than my average recap post, but I hope you all enjoyed nonetheless. Thank you for reading, and I’m wishing each and every one of you the happiest October!💓

How was your month? What’s going on for you in October? Do you love Percy Jackson as much as I do? Do you have/did you have homecoming? I’d love to talk with you all in the comments.

  1. Omg yes I LOVE Percy Jackson; it’s one of my favorite series ever! It makes me so happy to see that you love it too. 💙 That’s great that you did a huge reread of it this month. 😍 I hope that you enjoyed your blogging hiatus, and that October will be better for you! ☺️

September was actually a great reading month for me; I read a total of 7 books, which is a new record for me, hehe. I’m not really looking forward to October tbh, because school’s just going to get busier and more stressful, ahh. 😅 But anyways, welcome back to the blogosphere, Olivia!! We’ve missed you 💞 I’m looking forward to your posts again! 😊

    • Ahh, Percy Jackson is the BEST. I don’t think it will ever fail to be one of my all-time favorites, either. 😉 Thank you Dezzy, I had a great hiatus, but I’m really looking forward to all this month is going to bring!

Congrats on your reading month! 7 books is a lot, and I’m so happy for you that you reached that new number. Best of luck with all your school this month, and thank you again for all the kind words!💓

  2. Rereading is great, right? I often find myself rereading my favourite books when I’m at my most stressed and busy. It helps take my mind off things without causing any additional stress (which can happen when reading really good and/or intense books for the first time)! In my neck of the woods the semester is drawing to a close and exams are on the horizon…so my October will no doubt be spent scrambling to study and finish those assignments I neglected while reading and writing all September. Whoops!!

  3. I always love September, it’s always a month of fresh beginnings (but also chaotic for I’m not used with my schedule yet xD) and colder weather! Also, the hype because Halloween and Christmas are getting close! I barely read anything and posted this month too, as I said, even though I love the month, getting used to being busy again is too jarring for me xD Hopefully October will be a better month for us both!

  4. I want to finish the Percy Jackson series so bad but I just haven’t gotten around to it yer! I’ve read the first two books though.

I would love to be able to comment on homecoming, but I actually….have no idea what that is?? I’ve been trying to figure it out my whole life. We don’t have it in Canada!

    • I have so much love for the Percy Jackson series! It just keeps getting better, honestly- you’ll have to let me know your thoughts if you ever continue it. 🙂

Haha, I’ll do my best to explain it! Basically, it’s a tradition in American high schools (at least, I think it’s just American) where, on a fall weekend, there’s a Friday night football game and the following Saturday there’s a school dance and people dress up and take pictures, etc. The reason why it’s called homecoming is because usually the school’s alumni come back for the football game to cheer on their former high school. It’s super big where I live, but I think it’s less popular in other parts of the US. I hope that made a little sense, haha!

  5. Welcome back! 😀 You’re making me want to reread Percy Jackson! I haven’t read it in such a long time. And don’t worry about not getting around to blogging at all — I think the first step is knowing what your priorities are. Good luck with everything in October!

  6. I’m glad to hear you’re back and don’t apologize for being a bit absent, we all need to have some hiatuses, by choice or not. I’m glad you’re back now though, yay!! And yay for a great month of re-reading, I really should do that every now and then, but… new books distract me way too much haha 🙂
I hope you will have a lovely October ❤

Percy makes everything better, let’s be honest. 😉 Okay it actually makes me so happy for you that you have so much Percy left to experience, and I wish also had books of Percy that I haven’t read yet…because HE’S JUST TOO ADORABLE.
Ahh, you must listen to Hamilton. Although the Cabinet Battles are literally aMaZiNg so I think you can say you are slightly educated in the ways of Hamilton?
      HAVE THE MOST FABULOUS MONTH!

  9. Welcome back Olivia! I’m looking forward to your posts 🙂
The Last Summer of the Garrett Girls sounds like an amazing contemporary read! Also it’s so incredible that you read so much this month! I only read 1.5 books, one of which for school plus one short story also for school. September for me wasn’t too great because I’m not used to so much work in school haha and also I still wish it was summer! I hope you have a great month ahead! 🙂

    • Thank you, Sissi!💓Aww, that makes me so happy to hear, thank you.
IT IS SO GOOD. I hope you get around to reading it soon, and then we can scream about it together. My secret to reading a lot this month was spending every possible moment reading? I think I even read while I was doing my buns for dance. *face palm* Aww, I’m sorry it hasn’t been the best month for you, but wishing you all the best in October! 🙂

I’m proud of you 🙂 We don’t have the homecoming tradition (I don’t live in the U.S), but I’m so glad that you had fun! I’m sure you looked absolutely stunning ❤ gosh you read 10 books in September?? *high fives* is that even physically possible 😂 what dance do you do? the gif of Jim from The Office tho 😂 hope your October will be amazing!

Haha, I don’t know how I read ten books, it took a lot of reading late at night and also pretty much reading…in every little spare moment I had.🙈I do ballet, jazz, modern, broadway jazz, lyrical, hip hop, and composition! Hehe, I’ve only just begun The Office, but I already love Jim. Thank you so much Kimberly, I’m hoping the same for you! 🙂

THERE IS NO SUCH THING as too much Percabeth. Preach.🙌🏼Oh my goodness, Seaweed Brain is my favorite ever. *cries* Thank you, you as well!

  13. Hello hello HELLO :))
Okay so- pumpkin spice. This is the year that I actually want to try a Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks. I’m not sure, but I feel like that was the thing that got this whole pumpkin spice flavor going. Have you had one before and if yes, what did you think?
Oh my goodness, you reread the Percy Jackson books! Niceeee. I think Mark of Athena is the one I’ve read the most. That, or The Last Olympian. I rarely reread books, but Percy Jackson is a definite exception. It’s because I have most of them (I borrowed them from my fourth grade class bookshelf and then I just never returned them, oops), so when I was younger and had no books form the library to read and I really needed to read something, I would read those. It’s because they stay so fresh and unboring.
I had homecoming yesterday! It was so much fun and now my legs and feet are a bit sore.
Dance sounds intense, I hope it keeps going well!
The Hate U Give came out FRIDAY!!! I have a bunch of friends at school who have also read it and we’re all so excited about it.
Ooh, have fun at the concert!
Hm, I would say homecoming was the major thing happening for this month- but who knows, something unexpected might happen. And I’m so excited for your posts! :))

    • HELLO! I feel like it was been so long since we talked, which is not okay, but I’m so happy we are back to our rhythm of long comment conversations. 🙂
I have not actually had a pumpkin spice latte! I don’t really like coffee, but I do love the pumpkin spice frappuccino. So if you are hesitant for the coffee part, I highly recommend those- I actually got one on the way home from church today, and I can attest to the fact that it was very delicious. XD
YES, I love The Mark of Athena! (Honestly, mostly because of the scene where Percy and Annabeth reunite and she judo flips him and my Percabeth heart sings.) The Last Olympian is perfection too! Once again, my Percabeth heart is beating so hard. *cries* Haha, that’s funny about you accidentally taking them from your fourth grade class library. For all the books I borrowed from my class bookshelves over the years, it’s a wonder I never took any books, too.
Ahh, homecoming! I’m glad it was really fun.
I CAN’T WAIT! I hope to see it really soon after it comes out because I can’t wait much longer.
Thank you! It was actually on October 1st, so I already went, and it was so good. It was for this boy band I am quite obsessed with. XD
I hope you have a great October, and thank you!!

      • HELLO AGAIN. Me too, me too. Haha, I was about to type I am so glad to see you.
Oh right, I didn’t think about that- if I got a fall drink from Starbucks, it would probably be the pumpking spice frappuccino too. I love coffee ice-cream, but coffee is a different story. Trying one is now on my fall bucket list. :))
Whaaat okay, I completely don’t remember that scene. A scene I do remember though is somebody talking about (maybe at the end of Mark of Athena or beginning of House of Hades) how they doubt they’re going to survive, and then somebody else (Nico?) says that Percy no offense is the most powerful demigod he’s ever met and also he has Annabeth at his side, so if anybody’s going to make it through, it’s them. Honestly, I wouldn’t say it was a complete accident.
Ahhh, have you seen The Hate U Give since then?
        You’re welcome!

  14. I read The Last Summer of the Garrett Girls a few months ago, and I thought it was the perfect summer read! I haven’t come across too many others who’ve read it, so I’m happy to see you enjoyed it as much as I did! This is my first time visiting your blog, but welcome back! Sometimes we need a hiatus to come back with renewed energy!
