An October Recap (ft. my birthday, books, & a broken toe) + Goals for November

I can’t stop smiling because it’s really, truly fall.

I know fall technically started on back in September, but this past month is when it actually started feeling like fall for me- with chilly days, leaves changing colors, and all the fuzzy blankets and socks. I’m so excited for the rest of the season!

Blog Title - Design #1

As much as I do love fall, this post isn’t an ode to it. Though I should do one of those someday.p Today I’m going to be talking all about October and the crazy month that it was, and then I’ll be getting very excited about November because I have the best feeling about what’s to come.

Without further rambling, let’s get right into it!

Hi, I’m Olivia, and I miss the summer days when I actually had time to read.

My fall has been so busy so far, and I just don’t have too much time to read. I did go to the library this month, though, and I was able to read 5 books.

All of these were first time reads, except for A Thousand Perfect Notes, which I read for the first time in July and have already reread. I think that’s a proper representation of how much I love it. 😉

As for the other books I read, I LOVED THEM ALL. I really want to do a mini reviews post this month featuring a few of them, because there are just too many amazing books that I need to scream about on here. I’m too obsessed, send help.

I’m currently reading The Raven King (and I’m procrastinating it so much because I just don’t want the series to be over) and Darius the Great Is Not Okay (I’m so in love with this book, I can’t wait to finish it).

In other bookish news, I had the opportunity to beta read the second season of Audrey’s Dean & Lily, which will be coming out very soon. If I were you, I’d check it out. 😉

I also upped my Goodreads challenge for 2018! I had it at 75 books, and somehow I’m already at 73, so I decided to move it up to 85. I’m about 90% sure I can make it? Especially with having a fall break this month (!!) and a winter break in December (!!!).

October Goals:

  • Go to the library ✅ Look at me, achieving goals
  • Read 6 books ❌ barely missed it….I read 5
  • Start a bookstagram ✅ I did this and I’m so excited about it!
  • Read 4 books from TBR ✅
  • Write Goodreads reviews ❌ Agh, I’ll have to try again this month

November Goals:

  • Go to the library
  • Read 10 books (I’ll have a week long break from school)
  • Stay active on bookstagram
  • Look into Netgalley/Edelweiss

Oh, dear blog, I am so sorry that I keep neglecting you.

After taking my hiatus in September, I thought I would be back for real, but I found myself taking another (this one unannounced) break in October. School and dance have just gotten so busy, and I don’t want to post just to post, which means less posts if I don’t have time to write one that I’m proud of.

Thank you all for being so kind to me in my absence! Y’all are amazing.💓I’m hoping to get back on my normal schedule this November (I have some exciting posts planned!), hence why this post is on a Friday instead of my normal posting day- I want to start on Monday with my ordinary programming instead of a recap post. XD

What I Posted:

Since I was very MIA from WordPress this month, I didn’t get to read many posts. I don’t think I’ll be able to catch up on all the ones I missed, but this month I’ll be making more of an effort to read some everyday. 🙂

Goals For October:

  • Stay on blogging schedule ❌ I JUST COULDN’T DO IT
  • Writing update ❌
  • Harry Potter post ❌
  • Book reviews of some sort ❌
  • KEEP TRACK OF POSTS I LOVED ❌
  • Stay on top of reading posts in the blogosphere ❌ wow, this was so sad

Goals for November:

  • Keep on blogging schedule
  • KEEP TRACK OF POSTS I LOVED
  • Harry Potter post
  • Mini-review post
  • Special surprise(s) that I have planned 😉
  • Interact more, blog hop

Here’s to hoping this month is a better blogging month! I really am very excited to get back into it.

October. My favorite month of the whole year. While it didn’t disappoint, I don’t think it’s going to make history as my favorite month of 2018…we’ll have to see. 😉

For now, here are a few notable things that happened:

  • MY BIRTHDAY. This is always what I look forward to most each October, and it was wonderful this year. Thanks to everyone that made it amazing! (i.e. my friends, family, and all of y’all who wished me a happy birthday, too)
  • I broke my toe. Storytime…I was babysitting my neighbors, and I was being chased around the house, and my foot slammed into a doorframe. I broke my pinky toe, which is probably the least painful bone to break, so that’s good, but the bad things is I haven’t been able to dance full-out for a few weeks. With our winter concert coming up, it just wasn’t the best timing.
  • I saw my favorite band and Taylor Swift in concert! I was lucky enough to see my favorite boy band (they’re not too famous yet, but they are amazing) in concert this month, as well as my all-time favorite singer Taylor Swift.
  • I got my driver’s license. I am so incredibly excited about this! I was so nervous for my test but it actually went well, and now I can drive places. Like the library. *screams*
  • I have been listening to Hamilton nonstop. True fans will understand what I just did there. 😉 Also, you better believe that every drive to school is a production of Hamilton starring me as everyone.

I’m looking forward to November! Normally, it isn’t really anything special, but I’m just getting good vibes from it already, and we’re only on the second day. I get a week off school for Thanksgiving, which I’m SO happy about. I also really want to see The Hate U Give movie this month!

And there we have it, my month in a slightly long nutshell. I hope all of you had a great October, and are just as excited for November as I am! Thank you for sticking with me through all of my hiatuses lately, y’all are the best. 🙂

How was your month? Have you seen The Hate U Give movie? What was the best book you read? I’d love to chat with you all in the comments.

  1. AHH YOU’RE BACK I MISSED YOU! You got your drivers license? That’s amazing! I’m too young sadly, but when I can I will be! Happy (late) birthday! ATPN is amazing, isn’t it? I loved it, and now obsessively read C.G.Drews’ blog 😂
Don’t worry about taking a break, we all need one sometimes. So sorry to hear you broke your toe as well! I’ve never broken a bone, but I have a friend who popped and broke her collarbone a month or two ago! It didn’t look fun 🤷‍♀️
Can’t wait to read your posts, and hope your November rocks! Rhi xxxx

    • AWH, I MISSED YOU TOO. Ahh, thank you!☺️And thank you again. Oh my goodness, yes, I absolutely love ATPN and Paper Fury (I actually found out about her book from reading her blog first, haha)!
Aw, you are too sweet, thank you.💓Breaks are definitely important. It must be so painful to break a collarbone! Thankfully, I feel as if a pinky toe isn’t really THAT bad of a bone to break. XD It’s almost healed now, so it’s pretty much fine unless I jump around on it.
I hope you have an amazing month, too!

  2. I’m glad you had such a great reading month, Olivia! I absolutely loved Girl Made of Stars, and all the other books you read are on my TBR. ☺️ I’m excited for your blog posts this month!! I completely understand your unplanned hiatus in October; I have them all the time, too (😂) because of school. 😩

I really want to watch The Hate U Give movie this month, too!! I’ve been hearing such great things about it; I might be able to watch it during Thanksgiving break, hopefully.

    Wonderful post as always! 💞

YES, same! I haven’t heard much about it, but the little I have heard is all good things. Ooh, maybe I can watch it over break, too.

Thank you, and thank you for the lovely comment.💓

Thank you, you’re so kind! I hope your foot heals quickly as well- this has been the month of injuries for the both of us.
Ahh, I had no idea you were a Swiftie! What are your favorite songs/ favorite album?
Thank you, wishing you the same.☺️

  5. First, happy birthday. HOW DID I MISS IT GIRLFRIEND??
Second, congrats on the drivers license! I didn’t know you were that old, lol
Third, I understood what you did there…with Hamilton. And not only is the drive to school a full-on musical, so is doing all my homework, taking a shower, or trying to fall asleep.

    Liked by 2 people

    • AHH, THANK YOU! Haha, I didn’t really talk about it on my blog until this post. 😉
Thank you again! Well, I don’t feel old in the least- let’s be honest, I’m about eleven at heart. XD
YES, SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTANDS. And I agree…pretty much every time I listen to music, it’s a full on production of Hamilton right there in the *insert place* (room, car, kitchen).

  6. Okay, you’re post is making me excited. First, mini-reviews! I want to hear your thoughts on Darius the Great, Girl Made of Stars, and Always Never Yours. And second, your surprises! Hmmm, what could they be?
Onto to the opposite of exciting things, agh, oh no, I’m sorry about your toe.
Now to the flip side once again, congrats on your driver’s license!
Thank goodness we get a week off for Thanksgiving. Knowing that a break is coming up makes the weeks of school leading up to it easier.
Yes, I saw The Hate U Give last month: I can’t remember if I told you what I thought, but here’s my quick review: it was good, but not as good as the book. There are also a few plot changes that are kind of major. And crazy. Especially one of them. Now you just have to go watch it to see what I’m talking about. :)) The movie I’m excited for this month is Wreck-it-Ralph!
Ooh, best book? I had a good reading month in October- I read five books this month, and they were all good: Bird by Bird (I would describe reading Anne Lamott’s writing as listening to someone talk that you really like listening to), March: Book 1, Freshman (Freshers on Goodreads, there’s a British and American book/cover for the same book- maybe because I’ve never heard anyone say Freshers here), Driving by Starlight (I think you would like this book), and The Mothers.
Um, duh, of course I’m sticking through the hiatuses. :)) Honestly, our comment conversations helps me feel like you’re not even taking one.
    And HAPPY BIRTHDAY AGAIN.

    • Yay! I’m so happy to hear that. 🙂
Yes, I’m so excited to do mini reviews. I’ll definitely make sure to talk about all of those books when I do them. I want to do a full review for some of them, maybe? I’m so excited for my surprises too- well, I don’t want to overhype them, but it’s just something I don’t always do blogging-wise.
Thanks! It’s getting a lot better.
      THANK YOU! Hehe.
I know, I’m so excited. Only two more weeks of school until break! (I’m guessing we have the same break, since I’m guessing you get off the week of Thanksgiving. XD)
Oh yes, you did tell me your thoughts! I’m hoping to see it over my break. Now I’m curious what the major plot change is! In the preview, I did see something that I don’t think was in the book and kind of changed it, but also not. So maybe it was that, or maybe I just don’t remember what was in the book since I read it so long ago.
Wreck-it-Ralph! Is that the one coming out that has all the princesses having a pajama party?
I’ll have to look up the books you mentioned, especially Driving by Starlight. (Update: I just looked at Goodreads and it does look like my kind of book for sure! I added it to my TBR, thanks for the recommendation.)
Aww, haha, that’s true! We still continue to have our very long comment convos, and I wouldn’t want it any other way. Though I think I’m back from hiatus now. *crosses fingers*
      THANK YOU AGAIN!

  7. Ah, I’m so sad that you broke your toe! I broke several toes playing soccer freshman year of college and it was terrible! I hope it recovers well and that you can get back into dancing.

You read Girl Made of Stars!!! *I will go cry now* also, yes for mini-reviews, I love reading them.

I hope your November goes well!

    • Awh, thank you for the well wishes, Elizabeth!❤️Oh my goodness, breaking several toes sounds so painful.

I DID READ IT. And I’m so excited to write a mini review for it, even though I’m at a loss of words for what to say.

Thank you so much, hoping the same for you!

    • I love Darius too much.😭I finished it a couple weeks ago and *sob* he’s too pure for this world and YES the friendship with Sohrab was everything.
Thank youuu! Agh, riding buses always sounds fun, but I live in a suburb so we don’t have buses except for school buses. XD I was so scared of driving at first but now I love it, it still freaks me out sometimes too though.
