Hello again, dear blogosphere.
It’s been quite a while since I posted, or was able to interact with everyone here, and I just want to give everyone a giant virtual hug. Insert imaginary giant hug here.
Even though we’re already nearing the end of May what how help I still wanted to take a moment and talk about some notable moments of April because 1) recap posts are so much fun to write, 2) I already had some of this post done before I took a short hiatus, and 3) I feel like I just need to catch up with everyone?? It’s been a minute.
Like I said, I genuinely can’t believe it’s already almost June. The past few months have had their slow moments, but for the most part, have absolutely flown by. I feel like I’ve just been standing in the same spot, shell-shocked at how fast the year has passed me, since about February.
All right, without further ado, let’s get into the recap. 😉
Despite being busy with homework and dance, I managed to get quite a bit of reading done in April! This meant I spent more than a few nights reading *much* later than I should have, but shhh, we all know books are worth the few hours of lost sleep.
Whoa, for some of these books, it feels as if it’s been forever since I read them. I do feel sad because I was planning to review a lot of these, but I’m not sure how many I will get around to now and how much I really remember now oops.
Please let me know if there are any on this list that you’d really like to hear my thoughts on, and I’ll definitely take that into account when writing mini reviews posts in the future!
The only rereads I did in April were The Outsiders and Paper Towns (my favorite John Green book, so good!) and the rest were all first timers, which I’m excited about. I also branched out and read both a fantasy and sci-fi book!
How I Did on April Goals:
- Read 8 books ✅ can’t believe I actually did this?
- Take book photos + return to bookstagram ✅ I’ve returned!
- Go to the library ✅
- Buddy reads ✅ I organized some, that counts, right?
Tentative Goals for the Rest of May:
- Read 5 books
- Be more active on bookstagram
I think it’s becoming a trend that this section of my recap post is where I apologize for being gone…again. But as I said in my March recap, and as I know I will have to say in future posts, it’s okay. Life will go on.
Since it’s my last stretch of school before summer vacation (I only have one and a half week left, y’all!), teachers have been giving so many tests, not to mention AP exams and the fact that I had my dance recital. Sadly, for the end of April, and most of May, blogging just hasn’t been a priority for me.
This was especially disappointing for me because when all the craziness hit, I had finally been getting back into the swing of things- publishing posts regularly for the first time in a while, actually commenting and being caught up on everything. I really, really wanted to keep up that position in the blogosphere, but it just wasn’t possible.
I still don’t know exactly how the next couple of weeks will play out, but I’m hoping that my spurt of random hiatuses is over now, at least until I go back to school in August. I still have a few tests left, but in just a few days it will all be over.
So, here I am. I’m sorry to have left, but I’m feeling better than ever about coming back.
Before I disappeared off the face of the blogosphere, I wrote some posts that I really liked, so I’m going to talk about them quickly here. 🙂
- All My Thoughts on Six of Crows // Review + Opinions // This was so much to fun to write AND so much fun to fangirl with all of you in the comments. Can I just say, Wylan and Jesper forever.
- The Pancake Book Tag // My friend Becky created this awesome book tag and it was seriously the best ever. You should go do it.
- Do You Read the Book Before Watching the Movie? // I did a discussion post for the first time in forever, come chat with me about allll the book and movie adaptations!
One thing blogging-wise that I’m proud of in April is that for the beginning of the month, when I was feeling on top of everything, I kept track of some of the posts I really loved!
- Brianna talks about books she loves but never talks about and I saw so many of my childhood favorites on her list!
- Tiffany shares 5 bookstagrams to follow, and hi, yes, our shared Hufflepuff, pinky aesthetic is amazing, as is her list.
- Marie talks about not comparing yourself with other bloggers, and it’s amazing!
- Becky shares the stages of being a newbie bookstagrammer, and I was thoroughly entertained and completely related?!
- Ju talks about her favorite blogging moments and I couldn’t agree more!
Of course, there were definitely so many more I enjoyed, and I know I missed a ton of wonderful ones when I was on my break- but here are just a few you should go read.
How I Did on April Goals:
- Stay on schedule ❌ ha. ha. oops.
- At least one book review ✅
- Discussion post ✅
- Do a tag ✅
- Keep track of posts I loved ✅❌ I did at first??
- Consistently read other blogs ❌✅ again, at first I did…
Tentative Goals for the Rest of May:
- Post this and one other post
- Try to read other posts, but don’t get down if I don’t
To be honest, it’s a little hard to think back on April and remember things that actually happened…it’s all kind of blur??
- Taylor Swift’s new single ME! came out!! If you know me, then you know I’m a hardcore Swiftie. I’m SO in love with my girl’s new song and I can’t wait can’t wait can’t wait to see what the rest of the album holds.
- I’m obsessed with The Office. It. is. so. good. I didn’t think the humor was for me, but I was so wrong! Please scream about it with me in the comments. (I’m on season 7 though, so no spoilers. 😉 )
- So much dance. This is technically for my May recap, but I had my dance recital so April was spent preparing for all my dances! We also had a performance at a local dance show where a lot of studios come to dance for fun (not a competition!) and it was a lot of fun. Oh, and we had photo week at my studio, which is where we take pictures in all our costumes and it’s just generally amazing.
- Spending time with friends! I LOVE MY FRIENDS and getting to hang out with them always makes my “best part of the month” list because, well, they’re awesome.
This was a bit of a short list, but not only did I have a month that was mostly full of school…it’s been a while since April happened.
There we have it, my April in a nutshell. I think this is the latest recap post I’ve ever done, but I’m just excited to be back on the blogosphere and I’m okay with the fact that this was all over the place. 😉
Thank you all so much for your continued support and for reading this post! I hope you’ve all been having lovely months and know that I appreciate and love you. ❤
How was your April? What was the best book you read? Have you listened to Taylor Swift’s new song? Catch me up on everything- I’d love to chat with you in the comments.

I love, love, love The Office! It is one of my favorite television shows, I know so many portions of it by heart, I love all the memes and reaction gifs born from it. It has my favorite television couple: Jim/Pam. Aaaand, I it’s definitely my comfort show.

Ah, glad to see you back, Olivia! I feel you — I was pretty inactive as well these last few weeks/April/months, and it makes me really sad, but I know I’m FINALLY going to be actually active now because it’s pretty much summer vacation for me! And oh god I relate to all the dance things — I had rehearsals and a showcase and recital day and photo day and it was just so much (but I’m gonna miss it over the summer!).
I’m so glad you liked Crooked Kingdom so much!!! It makes me so happy to hear that you’re now just as obsessed with this series as the rest of us are 😉 And I think you told me your thoughts on the beginning of Ari and Dante but I’d love to hear what you thought of it after you finished! ❤

Thank you, May! ❤ Yay, I'm glad to hear that- it's basically summer for me too, I still have until next Thursday but I don't have any more assignments. Ahh, yes, I'm the same..dance was crazy for a while there but this is my last week and I'm sad about that. I hope your recital went well!
HAHA, I definitely am now.🙈Oh, I ended up really liking Aristotle and Dante! The second half was my favorite and just WOW, Dante and Dante's parents being the most adorable and Ari and Ari's parents opening up to him and then DANTE AND ARI DANTE AND ARI…it was just so good, May.

Also thank you SO much for sharing my post in here, I appreciate that a lot💕💕💕 You’re too sweet! Amazing post Olivia!

Aww, thank you so much, Brianna! This comment made me smile.💓Thank you- I finished my exams last week and I’m just so glad they’re over, haha. Ahhh, I literally cannot wait for Taylor’s album, I personally think she should just release it, like, right now. 😉 Thank you again, I hope you’ve been having a great May!

Omg thank you for sharing my post I seriously do not deserve this ??! ALSO I DIDN’T KNOW YOU WERE A SWIFTIE but now thinking about it, you TOTALLY GIVE ME SWIFTIE VIBES. I don’t even know what that means, but it’s true. Anyways, I totally loved listening to Me but the line where they say “You can’t spell awesome without me” makes me internally sob because like,,, whAT. It’s so catchy and fun though!! Also, have you read The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, because it was so PURE and one of my favorites in April, along with Descendant of the Crane ❤

Aah, you’re welcome, thank YOU for writing such engaging and interesting posts.💓HAHA, SWFITIE VIBES, I love that. XD Oh my gosh I’m so happy you love Me too, I just am so excited for the rest of the album. *screams* I haven’t read The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, but it’s been on my TBR forever so I think I need to get around to it asap, I also just looked up Decendant of the Crane and it looks really good!! Thank you for the recommendations and for your comment ❤

i’m so glad i’m not the only one who posted my recap super late!! 😂 but i’m so glad your back!
and i can completely agree on being inactive. i actually have another competition coming up as well as recital too, haha.
honestly, blogger’s use the excuse of “life” so much, but it’s so true and life does get in the way of everything sometime. i went on a pretty long un-announced hiatus back in april, but since summer’s almost here, i’m hoping i’ll have more time to blog + stay active in the blogosphere.
i hope you finish the school year strong and good luck in your AP exams!! have a wonderful rest of your month olivia xx

Ahhh, thank you so much for highlighting my post! I’m glad you liked it enough to share. 😀 I have also been rather absent from blogging over the last month. I didn’t do it intentionally, more like I just blinked and somehow a month had gone. :’D But you know what? I don’t feel the least bit guilty about it! Sometimes, life has to come first.
All the dance sounds amazing! I’m glad you’ve read so many great books as well!

OMG OLIVIA THE OFFICE!!! I love it so much, gah. I haven’t finished it yet either—I think I’m on the last season? I can’t remember. And that’s awesome that you read so many books recently! How was Famous in a Small Town? I’ve been really meaning to pick up some of Emma Mills’ books for so long.

IT IS SO GOOD. I’m on the second to last season currently, and while I like the earlier seasons better, it’s still hilarious. Thank you so much! I really loved Famous in a Small Town- it was my second favorite Emma Mills book ever, my first favorite being Foolish Hearts. It had the perfect small town aesthetic and a lovable group of friends.🤗

Ooh, I LOVE ME! I mean pastel colors, cats and Taylor Swift are completely paradise. Seems like you’ve had a good month. I’ve seen a few episodes of The Office, and it’s hilarious. Quick question: have you ever read From Twinkle, With Love? It’s my favorite contemporary along with the Princess Diaries series, and the Pretty Little Liars series [though I’m not sure if that counts as a contemporary….]

I am so glad you read Ari & Dante! It’s my favorite book ever and it makes me so happy to see other people enjoying it as much as I did. I also really liked The Way You Make Me Feel and The Outsiders. The first one was perfect for summer, but now the weather is quite cold here, so I’m feeling more drawn to more atmospheric reads.
I’ll be looking forward to your May recap to see how your recital goes. I am not a dancer myself, but I love everything that has to do with dance and ballet. One of my biggest regrets was not starting ballet as a kid. Now it’s way too late, but I can still appreciate it, hahah.
I have listened to ME! but I wasn’t instantly a huge fan of it. I know that when it comes to Taylor’s singles, I hardly ever like them at first but with time they grow on me. Nonetheless, I am super excited for the new album, especially after the rumors that she will finally be coming to South America for tour!
Hope you’ve had a great May so far! 💛

Ahh, I didn’t know it was your favorite book! Well, I enjoyed it quite a lot. Dante was a precious soft cinnamon roll and I loved him so much. (I loved Ari too, but DANTE.)
Aww, that makes me happy to hear! Ballet is amazing.
I love ME!, but I agree that Taylor’s singles usually aren’t the strongest of her album and don’t necessarily set the vibe for the rest of the album either. I heard about her possibly going places she’s never been for her tour, that’s so exciting! I hope she comes to Brazil near you.
Thank you so much, you too! ❤

You read so many books!! Ohh, what did you think of Famous in a Small Town? How does your Emma Mills’ ranking look like now? I’m interested in reading your review of The Spaceship next door because what a title.
I’m very excited to see what the rest of Taylor Swift’s album is like. Especially because I saw this one post about how the first song release of each of her albums have been pretty misleading about the rest of the songs. Also!! Did you see that Ed Sheeran came out with a new song? Wow, we totally called it.
Ohh, these aren’t books I read in April, but I just finished Persuasion this weekend on audiobook and wow, it was so good. I guess I’ve accidentally stumbled into the goal of reading all of Jane Austen. She’s amazing. I also listened to Othello on audiobook and that was really intense. Also, I saw this piece by the Atlantic that’s fighting the fight that Shakespeare was actually this woman called Emilia Bassano. It’s convincing. I also read this book called Radical, and it’s a life-changer.
The Office!!! Um, I’m actually still on Season 4. So I have no spoilers for you.

Haha! Oh my gosh, I loved Famous in a Small Town. It’s my favorite Emma Mills after Foolish Hearts. I LOVED AUGUST. He’s no Gideon but I just need to applaud Emma Mills for the soft boys she writes. I’m kind of sad because I’ve forgotten so much of what happened and had to look back on Goodreads to remember the character’s names, but I truly did love it. XD What did you think?
The Spaceship Next Door turned out to be really good but completely unexpected. I think you would like it! The main character actually reminded me so much of you and not just because her name was Annie.
ME TOO. Even though I love ME!, I know that’s not really the direction the whole album is going in and I’m okay with that because at this point I know I’ll love anything Taylor does. YES, I did see that! We definitely should be official artists-coming-out-with-new-music predictors for our professional careers. 😉
I want to read Persuasion! I should try to read more Jane Austen, too. Which ones have you read so far? I’ve only read Pride & Prejudice and then, of course, Emma. Whoaaa, that’s actually so cool. Was it online, and if so, can you give me the link? I can’t say I’m opposed to being convinced that Shakespeare was really a woman. XD A life changing book! What is it about/who is it by?
Haha, season 4 was good. Looking back, the earlier seasons (2-6) are my favorites thus far. Things turn a slight downward turn around season 7, but it’s still funny enough to keep watching, not to mention I’m completely invested in the characters at this point.

I think Famous in a Small Town is tied for second with First & Then (but I don’t really remember that book so I should probably reread it at some point to make sure this standing is correct) after Foolish Hearts and before This Adventure Ends. I loved how there was so much of the conversations all of them would have and just them talking and hanging out. And the plot twist! I really liked it, but I wouldn’t say I loved it. I’m so glad you did though!!
Ohhh, how can I not read a book with that description? I will add it to my TBR asap.
Yes, I’m really interested to see where she goes! Hahahaha, let’s do it!!!
Persuasion was pretty different from Pride & Prejudice and Emma. Not writing wise but character and plot wise. I know! Yes, here’s the link: https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2019/06/who-is-shakespeare-emilia-bassano/588076/. Tell me what you think! It’s called Radical by David Platt and it’s about what the gospel really is about and not what the American Dream has turned it into.
Yes, I’ve heard that! I’ve heard that the season isn’t that good (I was okay with the first season) and then it’s bad after Michael leaves. I will continue making my slow progress through it. Who are your favorite characters? Although I feel like it’s hard to not say Jim and Pam right???

Ahh yay! Ohh no! Let me try to remember them :))
What is your favorite sauce?
What do you and your sibling(s) fight about? (I know you have a sister, but I wasn’t sure besides that.)
Okay, I don’t remember my other original ones. I’ll come up with some more.
Is there a book you’ve gotten multiple of your friends to read, or have told multiple of your friends to read?
What’s something you’ve recently learned about yourself?

Thank you so much for the questions! ❤ I'm excited to answer them. :)) And yes, you're right, my sister is my only sibling!

That is a good ranking! I think mine is the same except with First & Then and This Adventure Ends swapped places. :))
Haha, yay!
I’m glad to hear Persuasion was different, not because I disliked Emma and P&P, but just because sometimes it’s nice to read something different than you expected.
Thank you for the link! I just read it and WHAT, I AM NOW CONVINCED THAT SHAKESPEARE DID NOT WRITE HIS WORKS. You’re right, that was extremely convincing. The most convincing part for me is the proof that Shakespeare likely would not have had any exposure to all the things he was supposedly writing about.
Yeah, it gets way worse after Michael leaves..I’m now on season 9, so I just need to finish it. Hmm, I love Jim and Pam. I also love Angela because she makes me laugh, and then a character named Erin who you might not have met yet. Who are your favorites?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes, I agree!
You’re welcome! HAHA I KNOW RIGHT. Yea, isn’t that crazy? And just the fact that there’s no hard evidence he wrote them! C Teachers should talk about this at school.
Aw darn. Do you know why he left? I’m surprised they made so many more episodes after he did though. Angela hasn’t been in many of the episodes I’ve watched recently. I mean featured prominently. Stanley makes me laugh. He’s the one who made me seriously laugh for the first time in The Office. It’s the episode in Season 1 where they have the basketball game and Stanley is guarding but totally incorrectly. It’s making me laugh as I think about it. Nope, I haven’t met Erin yet! Yep, I have to say Jim and Pam are my favorites.

THEY SHOULD TALK ABOUT IT MORE. I need a serious socratic seminar about this. XD
Yeah, I read that the actor Steve Carell originally signed The Office contract for seven seasons and he decided to stand by that original decision. Angela kind of drifts in and out of main plotlines. She’s either a central character or is basically just sitting at her desk for a whole season, lol. HAHA, I LOVE STANLEY. He is a constant mood. I hope you love Erin when you meet her!
LikeLiked by 1 person
Hahaha, yesss let’s do it :))
Oh, interesting. That’s cool that he stood by his decision even though I am sure he got so much backlash from fans. Yea, you’re right!
AH I KNOW RIGHT. I’m thinking of the mysterious woman episode when he tries to get a free cookie from the blood bank with a fake “bandaid.”
