My Pride Month TBR // 6 Books With LGBTQ+ Characters That I Want to Read in June!

It’s very nearly June, and I can hardly believe it.

Wasn’t it just January? Why am I still writing 2018 on all my papers and forgetting that February, March, and April actually happened? Despite how quickly this year has gone by for me (the days are long but the months are short, my friends), June has *almost* come.

Since June is Pride Month, I’m excited to be sharing my Pride Month TBR! I know you’ll probably all see dozens of these posts this month, but I wanted to do one anyway because there are just so many good books out there.

Blog Title - Design #1 (23)

I heard about all the books on this list from other book blogs, which just goes to show how lucky I am to be a part of this community. Without blogging, I don’t think I would have learned about so many amazing and diverse books!

If Pride Month is especially meaningful for you, then know I’m sending you all my love and I hope it’s a wonderful month.🌈 Without further ado, let’s get started!

Title: What If It’s Us  Author: Becky Albertalli & Adam Silvera  Publication: 10-8-18

What If It's Us

I’m pretty disappointed in myself because this came out in OCTOBER and I still haven’t read it?? It’s been checked out of the library every time I’ve gone, which must be a good sign, but still. This was one of my most anticipated releases of last year.

I just can’t wait for the meet-cute, the Hamilton references, and just!! This book literally looks so cute and I just want it to fill my heart with all of its cuteness. Even if people don’t cHECK it bACK into the library, I need to find a way to read What If It’s Us this June.

Title: Girls of Paper and Fire  Author: Natasha Ngan  Publication: 11-6-18

Girls of Paper and Fire (Girls of Paper and Fire, #1)

I know that I normally stick to my contemporaries, but I’ve noticed a new trend. When I branch out into fantasy, it’s always amazing and I always wonder why I didn’t read *insert book* sooner.

I already KNOW that this is going to happen with Girls of Paper and Fire. I’ve read so many glowing reviews of this story and it sounds absolutely beautiful. I also was able to check it out from the library, so I know for sure I’ll be reading it this June.

Title: Red, White, & Royal Blue  Author: Casey McQuiston  Publication: 5-14-19

Red, White & Royal Blue

When I first saw the summary of this book, I’m pretty certain I screamed or at least emitted a kind of squealing noise because this looks utterly adorable. I mean, the cover! The title! The entire premise of the book! I’m already hooked and I haven’t even read a sentence yet.

Based on the reviews I’ve read, this book exceeds all expectations and also has an amazing cast of side characters. If I’m lucky enough to read Red, White, & Royal Blue this month, it will be my first 2019 release of the year to read, and it sounds like the perfect book to start with.

Title: Autoboyography  Author: Christina Lauren  Publication: 9-12-17

Autoboyography

Can I just start by saying, this COVER. I feel like there should be a chorus of angels singing in the background every time I look at it. (Yes, I may have thought it was a tent for a solid six months, but it’s okay, I know it’s a book now.)

Besides its beautiful cover and the fact that I’ve heard many good things about it, I feel so intrigued by the summary of this book. The main character is a writer, and I don’t think I’ve ever read a book where the main character is a writer!! I don’t know if I’d consider myself a writer anymore, but I still think it’s so cool and am excited to read about that.

Lastly, the title of this book is actually the most clever thing I have ever seen. I love plays on words, and I think me loving the title and cover so much is a good omen for the rest of this book. 😉

Title: Blanca & Roja  Author: Anna-Marie McLemore  Publication: 10-9-18

Blanca & Roja

Another fantasy book on this list?? Who have I become.

I definitely cannot resist reading this book as soon as possible. From the Goodreads summary alone, I can tell that the writing is going to draw me in and that I’m going to be captivated. I also love that this story is about sisters, because I always need more sister relationships, and that it’s a fairytale-esque retelling.

Thankfully, my library also had this book, and I can’t wait to read it this June.

Title: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo Author: Taylor Jenkins Reid Publication: 6-13-17

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

I’ve heard so much praise for this book that it’s overwhelming. One day I’d never heard of it, and the next day it was all over every recommendation post I was reading and all of a sudden it was on my TBR and, well, I’m so looking forward to enjoying it myself.

The whole flashback element of this book appeals to me so much! I love books (and movies, like Mamma Mia 2) that has a story and then also has a story being told within the story. It interests me so much, and the whole premise of this book looks absolutely intriguing. Here’s to hoping I get to read it this month!

That concludes my Pride Month TBR! I know it seems like a lot of books to read in just one month, especially since I know I’ll be reading other books too, but it will finally be summer vacation for me and that means a lot of free time.

Again, I hope you all have an amazing Pride Month, and that this post gave you some ideas of books to read this June, too!🌈✨ Happy reading to all.

Have you read any of these books? What were your thoughts on them? Do you have any more recommendations I should read soon? I’d love to chat with you all in the comments.

  1. Okay, I am SO excited for you to read What If It’s Us. I’m actually considering a re-read of it in honor of Pride Month! I really hope you enjoy it!! (especially after everything you’ve gone through just to get it in your hands!

I really, really need to read Red, White, and Royal Blue, and even that feels like an understatement. So many people have absolutely gushed about it, and I have NO idea why I haven’t read it yet.

I’m so looking forward to adding some of these titles to my TBR. I unfortunately haven’t read many books with LGBTQIA representation (or, at least, as much as I would like to), and these all sound so good!

Wonderful post as always, Olivia! 💜

    • Eeek, that makes me so happy to hear! It really just does look entirely adorable. Enjoy your reread, if you decide to do one. 😉

SAME. I haven’t seen so many people gushing about a book in I don’t know when…

I’m glad you found some books to add to your TBR! I’m with you on that I’m always looking for more books with LGBTQIA representation, and I’m so happy that all these books exist and many more out there that are just waiting to be read by us. Thank you so much, and thank you for your comment! ❤

  2. I am also having a queer filled TBR for Pride Month and I’m excited! I’ve already read Seven Husbands and though I didn’t enjoy this one as much as everyone else did, I hope you have a better experience than I did. It’s still an amazing book; I just had way too high expectations for it.
Red, White & Royal Blue has been getting sooooo much praise and I’m super excited to devour it. I plan on reading it during the first weekend of June, as my reward after this super packed and busy week I’m currently going through. I really wanted to pick up Autoboyography too, but this month is already filled and I do want to prioritize reads that aren’t only M/M romance, since I feel like I’ve already read a great amount of those.
Hope you have an amazing reading month & get to all of these great titles! 😊

    • Yay, I hope you get around to reading some amazing books!🙌🏼I’m sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy Seven Husbands as much as others- I’ll try not to go in with TOO high of expectations so I’m not as disappointed.
Oh, sending you all the positive vibes through your busy week! ❤ You got this, and I'm glad you have RW&RB as an incentive at the end, haha.
Thank you so much, Lais! I really appreciate your comment, you're always so kind to me and make my day.

  3. Aahh I’ve read and loved almost all of the books on your TBR! GOPAF and Evelyn Hugo are definitely my favorites and I’m so excited for you to read them and I can’t wait to see what you think of them! They’re both so well-written and beautiful and definitely popular favorites!

What if It’s Us the perfect book for summer, since it’s light and fun and also takes place in summer. And Autoboyography gets a little heavy but it’s so cute and made me super happy ❤ I hope you get around to reading all of these Olivia!!

    • That makes me so happy to hear! Ahh, I’m actually so hyped to read all these. *screams*

Well, even though I wish I had read it months ago, I guess it’s good that I’m getting around to What If It’s Us in summer, then. 😉 Thank you so much for your comment, May! Happy reading!

  4. Haha, I love all the fantasy books! I actually haven’t read a fantasy book in a while and I’m slightly feeling the need to read one.
I think the clever Autoboyography is so clever too. I can’t help falling for puns. Okay, I’ve seen the cover for Girls of Paper and Fire multiple times, and every time, the banner at the top makes my brain go “blu-ray.” The Blanca & Roja cover is very cool and gives me origami vibes. The only origami creation I can make is a boat. I can’t even make an airplane. Or a fortune teller, which I feel like is a nice one to know so that you can use it to entertain kids.
And also, Red, White, and Royal Blue won’t be your first 2019 release! Famous in a Small Town came out this year :)) Other new 2019 books I’ve read include On the Come Up (so good), To Night Owl From Dogfish, and Working by Robert Caro. I’ve never kept up with new releases like this before, but this year I have a list of books that are coming up.

    • Fantasy is a necessity. I feel like it’s the dessert of books for me- I have a steady diet of contemporary, but every once in a while I just really need fantasy. Sometimes more often that not. XD
HAHA, oh my gosh. I’m never going to look at the cover of Girls of Paper and Fire the same again. “Coming soon on blu-ray and DVD…” Am I the only one who can clearly hear that guy’s voice in my head? And then I see the Tinkerbell animation pop onto the screen…
Yes, the origami! I am a lost cause at origami. I can’t make an airplane either, lol. I used to be able to make fortune tellers, but I have lost that skill.
YOU’RE RIGHT. Oops, I should keep better track of the books I read. ;)) I’m about to read On the Come Up and I can’t wait.

  5. I recently read Evelyn Hugo and Blanca & Roja and loved both of them! Anna-Marie McLemore is one of my favourite authors, her writing style is just wonderful. I hope you enjoy. 🙂 I have the Girls of Paper and Fire eBook ready and waiting to be read next month, I’m very excited for it.

  6. I didn’t know What If It’s Us had Hamilton references– they sounds amazing!! I really got into the soundtrack this year!! 😂
And I have been seeing Red, White and Royal Blue around a lot lately and hearing only good views. I do want to pick this one up myself– I looked for it at my bookstore but it didn’t have it!!
I do love The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo– the writing was amazing!! So I hope you enjoy!! 💛
Happy reading!! I hope you love all the books!! I don’t really plan my TBRs but I am going to read Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the universe and You Asked For Perfect which I am very excited about!! 😊

    • Hamilton is the BEST and when I read in reviews that What If It’s Us had references to it, I knew I just had to read it.🙌🏼
Aww, I’m so sorry your bookstore didn’t have it- I hope you’re able to find it at a library or order it online.
Thank you very much, Sophie! Wishing you all the happy reading, too. ❤ I read and loved Aristotle and Dante, and You Asked for Perfect has been on my TBR for quite some time. Enjoy!

  7. This is such a great TBR Olivia ahhh so many great books to read! I recently read Evelyn Hugo and I adored it so, so much, definitely worth all the hype. I can’t wait to hear what you think of it 🙂 I also want to read Red, White & Royal Blue, it sounds amazing!!

  8. Great post! Pretty much all of these are on my TBR so its good to know that they are *hopefully* there for a good reason and that I will not be disappointed!

My favourite LQBT book is Simon vs Homosapien, but I also enjoyed Leah on the Offbeat and recently read The Binding by Bridget Collins and ADORED IT. I also read My Heart Goes Bang by Keris Stannington which features lots of different sexualities from the rainbow, which was so refreshing!

ALSO I AM WITH YOU. HOW IS IT ALMOST JUNE?!?! I swear doing wrap up posts on my blog makes the months go faster!

    Liked by 1 person

    • Thank you, Becky! Ahh, I love that our TBRs are so similar- these definitely all sound so so amazing.🙌🏼

I have to say, Simon Vs. might be my favorite too?? I just can’t get over it. I wasn’t as big a fan of Leah on the Offbeat, but I lived for the Simon and Blue moments it had. I haven’t heard of The Binding or My Heart Goes Bang- I’ll have to look them both up! *adds them both to my tbr*

EXACTLY???! Every time I write a recap post I look back at the last one I wrote and I always think…wasn’t I just writing that?? How has the time flown by so fast.

  12. ahhhh, so many books I have to add to my tbr now!! I’ve seen so much positive reviews on Goodreads for Red White and Royal Blue I’m just… help I need this right now?? Hehe I’m so glad I just put a library hold for Girls yesterday, and I absolutely can’t wait to read it. Anna-Marie McLemore’s books are so amazing *cries* and the covers too *sobs* The title “Autoboyography” is so genius, hands down. Also!! I get you, I also thought that it was a tent at first, but then I saw the book pages and I could never understand why I saw that originally 😅 even though I have loved, and still love TBDATE, I want to do a reread but then I also need to read the book recs mentioned above?? love this post really, so much 💗 happy reading!!

    • Yay, I’m glad you found some books that you want to read!💘I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on all of them- that’s so exciting that you have a hold on Girls. *cheers* Lol, I feel you with the tent-that-is-actually-a-book. The problem is that now I can’t unsee it no matter how much I know that it’s a book.😂TBDATE definitely deserves a reread if you’re feeling it- I haven’t reread it but it’s been quite a while since my first go around so maybe I should. Thank you so, so much Kimberly! Happy reading dear.
