September Recap // ft. school being stressful, rereading, & a hiatus announcement!!

Wow. September happened.

Half of me feels like this month flew by, but the other half is pretty sure it lasted about six years. September was a month of school stress (at this point, I don’t think school is ever going to be not stressful), dancing all the time, and pretty much abandoning my blog and books in general.

So, in short, I’m really happy it’s over!

Blog Title - Design #1 (48)

It’s now *almost* my favorite month of the year, and I couldn’t be more excited about that! I’m hoping to channel a lot of the positivity I feel about it now nearly being October into this wrap-up as I talk about what happened this past month and what’s to come in the next month (the title of this post spoiled that, but it’s okay).

Let’s get started!

Does Olivia still read? This is a question I asked myself many times this month.

The answer is…kind of. She reads, but since she’s stressed out with school, she mostly only rereads books from her childhood because they make her heart happy and help her forget about the things she’s worried about.

Okay, I’m going to stop referring to myself in third person now and talk about the books I read in September. 😉

Hamilton and Peggy!: A Revolutionary FriendshipThe Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1)The Sea of Monsters (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #2)The Titan's Curse (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #3)The Battle of the Labyrinth (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #4)The Last Olympian (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #5)

Yes, I read one book that disappointed me immensely and then I followed that up by rereading the entire first Percy Jackson series, which did the opposite of disappoint me- it made my month a thousand times better, actually.

I always forget how much I truly love Percy Jackson. It really is a close second to the Harry Potter series for me. Percy is so sarcastic, sassy, and is a genuinely great character. The writing is hilarious, relatable, and you learn a lot about mythology. Annabeth is amazing, I’ll be shipping Percabeth to my last breath, and the OG trio of Percy, Annabeth, and Grover are seriously iconic.

I’ll never regret rereading the series! My favorite is definitely The Last Olympian, though, or maybe The Sea of Monsters? They’re just all really good, okay.

I read basically all of the Percy Jackson books while doing my hair for dance (this is a special talent of mine, I can do buns and read at the same time), right before bed (I stayed up way too late reading a few times), or at any moment I could catch during the day. Honestly, this month was the perfect example of me making time to read even when there didn’t seem to be any.

Blogging in September was essentially nonexistent for me, and that’s why I’ve decided that I will be taking a short hiatus during the month of October.

I know I’ve said this a lot of times, and I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but the truth is that school and dance are taking up all of my time. My days consist of school, dance, and doing homework until late at night, and my weekends consist of dance, homework, babysitting, and trying to find times to hang out with friends.

The only posts I posted this month were pre-written in summer, and it was all I could do to keep up with comments and read a total of probably ten posts from other bloggers this whole month. That makes me really, really sad.

I love blogging with my whole heart, but it’s just not possible for me to dedicate as much time as I want to it right now. That’s why I’ve made the decision to take a step back for now, probably just for October.

I’m not going to be completely gone, though- I have an exciting blogging opportunity happening in just a couple of days, so I’ll be posting then, and I’m hoping to continue to use bits and pieces of my spare time to read the posts in my Reader and work on posts. I’m not taking a hiatus from WordPress, I’m taking a hiatus from feeling pressured to post.

Thank you all for all your support recently, even when I haven’t been able to reciprocate the support on all of your blogs- you all mean the world to me, and I’m so thankful for each and every one of you.

So, to conclude, I won’t be posting (much) in October and possibly beyond? I don’t know where this month will take me, and it honestly all depends on that, but I’ll keep you updated for sure. Thank you again for understanding!

Now that I’ve gotten that of the way, here’s what I posted in September in case you were interested! It wasn’t much, but I did enjoy both of these posts and I hope you all did too.

I won’t be setting goals for October, since I know I won’t be actively posting, and I already outlined my hopes for my hiatus in the above essay paragraphs. Also I don’t want to see all the red x’s next to the September goals I didn’t accomplish. But hopefully I’ll be back next month to talk goals!

Besides the fact that school is consuming me, life in September actually went pretty well.

  • I’m still loving LoverI just keep getting more and more obsessed with Taylor Swift’s new album! The songs that I originally wasn’t in love with are now some of my favorites, but my favorites are still my favorites…so, essentially, they’re all my favorites, and it’s amazing. There’s a Lover Book Tag circulating the blogosphere that I’m definitely doing at some point as well!
  • I finished Stranger Things!! Honestly, I can’t believe I adored this show as much as I did. I never in a million years would have expected to like it, but I fell in love, and now my Pinterest board (and heart) is suffering as a result of it. Mileven forever.

Image result for stranger things gif

These are all my moods for how much I love this show. Also, aren’t they just too adorable?!

  • Dance is nonstop, but going well. It’s literally everyday, but I love it! I think I mention dance in every wrap-up, but it’s such a huge part of my life, I can’t help but always remember it as being a huge part of my month.
  • Car rides with one of my friends. I’m driving one of my friends home from school this year, and our car rides home have quickly become one of the best parts of my day. Sometimes we listen to music, sometimes we have deep talks, we always say the best and worst parts of our days, and I always love it.

There we have it, the notable parts of September. Like I said earlier, October is my favorite month of the year for a lot of reasons, so I have high hopes for the notable section of my monthly recap up next month!

The exciting things coming up in October are sweater weather, my birthday, a fun event I’m going to, visiting my sister, and the new season of Riverdale is coming out. Can all these things just hurry up and happen. 😉

That concludes my monthly wrap-up! Thank you all for reading, and thank you again for always being so kind and encouraging to me, it genuinely means so much to me. Even if I’m having a horrible school day, reading a sweet comment can always make my heart a little lighter and put a smile on my face.

I hope you all have the most wonderful October, and that you’re having a lovely day.✨

How was your September? Tell me all about it! Have you ever taken a hiatus? Have you watched Stranger Things? I’d love to chat with you in the comments.

  1. I’d just like to say that going to the library to study, even if you don’t borrow books still counts as “going to the library” and you should definitely be more lenient with yourself!!
Also, tale as much time as you need. School is important!! 💕

  2. Ooh. Percy Jackson. That’s a great series. I’ve re-read it more times than I can count. And I’m glad you enjoyed Stranger Things. Aw, we will all miss you but I hope you have a good time during your hiatus.

    • That’s so true, I love how you put that! I honestly know so much about Greek mythology solely from reading Percy Jackson, and I’m sure that will come in handy at some point in my life.🙈Thank you, Tasya, I hope you are having an amazing month!

    • Aww, best of luck with October!❤️I hope you have better reading experiences this month. I feel you on falling behind- I kind of fell behind on everything this last month, specifically blogging and reading. I really hope I can catch up on all of your posts that I missed soon, Jenna! Hope you’re having a lovely month.

  3. I’m so glad your September was nice! Now you made me want to pick up the Percy Jackson books, I have the whole series at home but only read the first book some years ago.

I have never taken a hiatus but I’m seriously considering one now. I don’t know how I’ll be able to have time to do everything I need to do while also blogging 😕

    • Thank you so much, Catarina!☺️Ahh, the Percy Jackson books are really cute, I hope you get around to reading them at some point.

I definitley get that! Hence why this comment is so late- my apologies for that. Sometimes it’s important to take a step away so that you can come back at full force when you feel ready! Wishing you the best of luck in whatever you decide to do.❤️

  4. I understand with the feeling that September flew by but lasted forever. It’s been a good and horrible month at the same tome. Lots of family conflict, but dual credit is awesome. Good luck on your reading! I’m trying to get back into it meself. ☺️ Have fun on your hiatus!

  5. Sorry to hear that your September wasn’t great, but at least it’s almost October (my favorite month as well!) and I hope your time off from blogging goes well! ❤ Rereading Percy Jackson is ALWAYS a great choice, imo. My fave of the series is Battle of the Labyrinth, with The Last Olympian VERY close behind it. Good luck with everything in the coming months, and I hope you find some amazing books! 😀

    • Thank you, Margaret! I hope your October has been treating you well, especially as it’s your favorite month too. 😉 I love both of those! The New York battle in The Last Olympian is genuinely one of my favorite parts of the entire series. (Also, the Percabeth moment at the end of the book…I can’t, I’m a sucker for that ship.) Thank you again, happy reading to you too!

  6. I love seeing your posts in my WP reader, but always take time for life!! Car rides with friends are the best. I made it a goal to hang out with friends this month, and although I barely made it by doing so this past Friday, I still did it!! And I’m so glad I did. My September was pretty good; I managed to stay on top of my school work, applied for some jobs, stayed on top of blogging, got a MASSIVE stroke of inspiration & now have autumnal blog post ideas lined up to December when the Christmas content starts. (No idea what I’ll be writing about then; let’s just enjoy Fall first haha.) I’ll be looking forward to seeing your posts whenever you’re inclined to write 😉

    • Thank you very much, Macey!💛Aww, that’s so wonderful. I agree, car rides with friends and time spent with friends is so good for the soul. Even when I have so much going on in life, I never regret setting aside time to spend with my friends! Congratulations on all your successes this past month- that’s so exciting about your inspiration and blogging content you have lined up. I wish I could relate, haha! I will most definitely be looking forward to reading your autumnal content (when I have time to blog hop 😉 ). Thank you again for this lovely comment! I hope you’re doing well.

  7. Ahh I’m taking a hiatus too!!! I don’t have the excuse of dance and school though… I’ve had three weeks off and written half a post in that time. I just feel… empty of inspiration.

I haven’t read Percy Jackson yet…. please don’t kill me? *hides behind a desk* Or at the very least don’t hit me like Rory did to that poor deer 😂 😉 I will soon though!! My friends have been pressuring me for forever (I’m sorry, this paragraph is full of way too many references)

School is always stressful, sadly. Hoping you pull through okay, and I’m always here xxx

    Liked by 1 person

    • Hey, lack of inspiration is definitely a reason to take a hiatus! I hope you’re doing well and your hiatus is helping you feel refreshed again.💞

Haha, Rory hitting the deer is SO funny?? Sometimes my sister and I will just randomly be like, “remember when Rory Gilmore got hit by a deer” and we’ll just start laughing. If you want to read Percy Jackson, you should!! But if you don’t, then no worries, it’s all up to your personal taste. 😉

Thank you so very much, Rhi! How are you doing? How is school?

      • It’s… making me less stressed about something? (When I’m stressed about other stuff so that’s good!!). How is yours?

I KNOW. Honestly sometimes I’ll text my friend that gif and the next time I see her we’ll just crack up. And I want to, I really do! I just have to find time in my TBR haha

I’m doing okay. Not amazing, but hey, okay is better than bad. School is…. stressful. Like always haha. I won’t bore you as I do enough ranting in my October recap (I’m coming back for it!) but let’s just say that. How about you? We haven’t talked in forever – probably cause we”re both on hiatus! xxx

        • That’s good!! Mine was a blur, I honestly can’t believe I’ve been away from blogging for so long. I’M SAD ABOUT IT. I think I’m almost back?? ish?? School isn’t really slowing down, but I’m about to have a week long break and I miss blogging too much to stay away any longer.

          HAHA!

I feel you 100% with “okay is better than bad”- that’s how the majority of my days have been recently, with some highs and lows thrown in, and that is okay with me…I hope you’re still doing well!

  8. Ah, I related to this post so much! Somehow, I’ve still been able to keep uploading a steady stream of post even though school has been pretty intense, but I feel like I’m sacrificing quality over quantity! I think that posting less would be best, but at the same time, I have spent so much work on this blog that I don’t want to take a hiatus and possibly waste my hard work? Idk I just have this huge fear that everyone’s gonna forget about me once I stop blog hopping and posting:(

Anyways, this comment isn’t about me!! Please take care of yourself, Olivia 💖💖 I know that you’re prioritizing your health and school, and you should never feel bad about that. I should actually take a bit of a posting hiatus too, but still blog hop, because reading posts in the midst of the stressful school year has been super relaxing for me! I hope you have an amazing October ✨

    • Oh, Caitlin, I understand that feeling so much! That is my biggest fear going into hiatus-and it’s something I’m struggling with right now, too. I want to get back into blogging, but I know I don’t have enough time to fully dedicate myself, but I also don’t want people to forget about my blog or think I forgot about them since I haven’t blog hopped in ages. I just have to remember that everyone here is so supportive, and that my blog is here to comfort me, not stress me out! I hope that can help a little bit, and I also hope things have been less stressful for you as of late.💗

Thank you so, so much! These kind words mean so much to me. I love that blog hopping has been relaxing for you, that’s amazing- again, I hope you’re doing well. I’ve feel like I haven’t been able to talk to you in forever and I’m so sad about that, how are you?? Thank you again, and I hope your October has been a lovely one.

  9. I feel ya, September was harsh. I had no inspiration to post whatsoever on my blog and I found myself working overtime and missing summer way too much. My head was just not there, it was too busy! Just like for you. October is going to be better though! I’m glad your dancing is going well and happy birthday to you this month Olivia! 😀 And OMG YESS Stranger Things, Stranger Things, Stranger Things!!!!!!! Steve Harrington will be the death of me, and I ADORED Robin ❤

    Liked by 1 person

    • Aww, I’m sorry to hear that! September always does hit me pretty hard. I hope your October has been much calmer!💛Ahh, Stranger Things- yes, Steve Harrington is pretty much perfect, I feel like we can all agree on that for sure. I loved Robin too! My favorite character is Mike, though, he’s just the sweetest. Thank you for your comment, Jai Lynn!

  10. Take care of yourself, Olivia! I get how it can be and if you’re feeling the pressure to deliver blog posts, in addition to the school, dance and everything else happening in your life, well… it just means you need that hiatus. I hope you’ll find a new rhythm that works out well for you and always here to support you ❤ sending you lots of love and have a beautiful October ❤ ❤

I hope you’re doing well and that you’re having a great October! (Filled with lots of listening to All too Well and Taylor’s Red album, because fall.😍)

  11. yay for re-reading percy jackson! re-reading always puts me in a better mood instantly, especially if it is my favorite series. my favorite installment is probably the titan’s curse, though the last olympian is amazing. it’s been a while since i last re-read it, so i definitely should do it soon.
and it’s totally okay to be doing a hiatus, olivia! you should definitely prioritize yourself first. it’s impressive you’re doing so much even with such a busy schedule anyway and i’m sure you’ll return feeling twice as inspired & refreshed!
and another yay for stranger things! season four has just been announced and even though i do not consider myself a huge fan of the show, i’m hyped for it! the characters are indeed super adorable. btw, who’s your favorite character? (let me guess, steve harrington?)
i’m wishing you an amazing october! enjoy your hiatus time! (and btw you’re literally the fourth blogger i read a post from today whose birthday is in october. there are so many libras/scorpios in the book community!)

    • I’m the same way! Rereading is brings me such joy, and that’s why I do it so often. Ahh, I love The Titan’s Curse because you get to know Thalia, and she’s such a great character. The only reason it’s not my top favorite is that Annabeth is missing in a lot of it, and I love her banter and wit.
Thank you so much, Lais!💖I’m still not sure when I’ll be 100% back, which makes me sad (I miss your posts!!), but it means so much to me to have your support.
I’m really excited for season 4, even though I think it will be a long wait! Haha, while I love Steve, my favorite character is definitely Mike. He’s so adorable and such a good and loyal friend, I love him so much. Who is yours?
Thank you again! I hope your October has been going well.💛Haha, really? Libras for the win. XD

Um, excuse you, HOW CAN YOU DO A BUN & READ AT THE SAME TIME, I CAN’T EVEN DO A BUN WHEN ALL MY ATTENTION IS FOCUSED ON IT 😂 I hope you feel refreshed & recharged when you get back from your hiatus – all the best of luck with school & dance! ☺️ Also, I totally vibe what you mean about Lover – the songs I didn’t like that much are now my faves & the love I had for my original faves has continued to grow exponentially 😂

    Have a great October, Olivia!

    • WHY DID I LAUGH SO HARD AT THIS. All I can say is, it takes dedication and true talent…just kidding, it takes a delirous multitasker who really wants to finish their book.😂Thank you so much!! It’s been going really well, and even though I don’t feel like I’m ready to full return, I already feel less stressed and more inspired about blogging. My feelings EXACTLY about Lover- I’m glad I’m not the only one!

Thank you! I hope your month was amazing.💓

  13. I should jump back into the Percy Jackson series. It’s NOT a series a great up with, like Harry Potter; I read the first book back when I was…28? But I still remember being really engaged in and entertained by the book!

    • Percy Jackson is honestly so good! I read it in my childhood, but I know what you mean about not growing up with it the same way I did with Harry Potter. I feel like HP was so integrated in my life what with the movies and everyone knowing about it- but Percy Jackson is a close second for me. 😉 I hope you enjoy your reread!!

  14. Um, I think I’m going to start having to take a hiatus very soon-as in like this week because like you, all my posts so far were from pre-written in the summer. I need to double check, but I’m pretty sure my stockpile of posts has reached zero. The magic of a post being published each week without writing it recently is sadly about to come to an end. It’s actually been strange not writing blog posts though. Has it been similar for you too?
Dang, I’m sorry you didn’t Hamilton and Peggy :(. But YES Percy Jackson!!! Those books are the ones I’ve reread the most because I accidentally stole most of the series from my fourth grade teacher’s class library, and for a couple of years, whenever I didn’t have anything from the library to read, I would go find a Percy Jackson book and read it. I think the ones I’ve reread the most are The Last Olympian and then The Mark of Athena from the Heroes of Olympus series. I love the New York battle in The Last Olympian.
Okay okay, I still need to finish Stranger Things.
Wow, those car rides sound seriously lovely. What do you call the thing where you tell the best and worst things? I’ve heard it call high-low, roses and thorns. Have you learned anything about how to help deep conversations happen from these car rides?

    Liked by 1 person

    • Ahh, I hope your hiatus has been going well! I’m sorry your magic of pre-written posts has ended, because that’s a wonderful unique form of magic in itself. It has been strange for me to not write posts, but even though I think about my blog almost every day, I never have enough time (even during the weekends) to actually write a post, so part of me just knows this is the way it has to be for now, and has accepeted it. So yes and no, I guess- it’s been sad not to write posts, but I couldn’t imagine having the time.
Yeah, I was expecting to like it more. :(( It just…nothing really happened?? HAHA, I think that’s so funny that you stole it from your class library. I remember the summer after third grade one of my friends started panicking because she realized she stole a book from the class library and our teacher had moved schools so there was no way to get it back to her. It seemed like such a big deal at the time, haha. I love The Last Olympian New York battle! This is random, but two of my favorites parts are 1) when he sees his mom and stepdad in the car asleep and pulls them to safety and 2) when Annabeth takes the sword for him and he runs to go see her in the hotel thing and he’s just so scared for her safety. I also love Mark of Athena! Sometimes when I’m feeling down I get it off my shelf and reread the part where Percy and Annabeth renuite.
Ooh, Stranger Things. My friend and I are being Max and El for Halloween!
They are!! I call them highs and lows, but I’ve also heard it called roses and thorns, and also happys (happies?) and crapp(ie?)ys. Hmm, deep conversation tips…honestly, they usually stem from a random thought one of us had. Or one will ask for advice on a situation from the other, or talk about something random that happened that day, and a topic will stem from there.

      • I’m on my second week of being hiatus, and to be honest, I don’t like it. Yes, I agree, but I can’t imagine actually writing posts at the moment either. Umm, I still haven’t returned them. And I actually ran into my fourth grade teacher after school on Friday. I didn’t recognize her for a second and then I did a double take. (My school’s pre-k to 12 if that helps things make more sense.) Ohh, and then his mom picks up a gun?? I’m pretty sure that’s the same scene. I also like when Annabeth sets off all the statues. And then when Percy sets off the blue light at the end to tell his mom he’s okay???? Oh my goodness. Ahhh, I love that.
        AHH I LOVE THAT.
Oh, on Fridays some weeks we have this thing where juniors and seniors lead middle school bible studies, and this week we did sunnies and rainies with the fifth graders we have. I love how deep conversations are something I wish could be manufactured but basically can’t be.

        • I’ve been on hiatus for almost two months now, and I don’t like it either. Since it’s about to be Thanksgiving break, I’m coming back! I can’t stand not writing posts anymore, and even though I know it will be hard to juggle it and school, it’s worth it.
Haha, that’s so cool! I saw my fourth grade teacher a few months ago at an awards thing, because her daughter is in my grade.
Yeah, that’s the one!! Aww, me too. And I love the scene at the end with Percy and Annabeth when they go underwater. SO CUTE.
That’s really cool! I wish my school could do something like that, but it’s not a Christian school so we could never. (It’s not NOT Christian, it’s just a regular public high school.) Exactly!

I’ve been on break for the past month. And I just thought the timing was perfect because this will be my first week blogging again too!
Hahaha ohhh that scene where Percy and Annabeth get carried on everybody’s shoulders, and then Percy’s like HA, we can stay underwater forever??

  15. It’s really nice that you have a hobby to distract you from classes and homework! Don’t worry about taking time for yourself – read, rest, and have fun ^^ I really miss the Percy Jackson series! I read the first one all in Portuguese but then my library didn’t have the rest so my friend was forced to buy the books and I borrowed from her! hahaha
I hope classes are going alright, and manageable! My classes have only started this week, however, I already have so much homework and so many essays to write! And it was stressful because I had to change some classes and all. I’m also looking to get a hobby – maybe going to the sports centre at the university, to get me moving! On top of it all, I do wanna keep blogging, but I don’t know how I’ll organize myself. There are so many activities for exchange students here 😛
I wish you have a great october!! ❤
