8 Thoughts Bookworms Have in the New Year

The mind of a bookworm is a complex thing.

We are constantly having thoughts of all sorts. What characters do I ship? What book do I read next? How do I not drown under my TBR? So, as 2018 begins, even more thoughts enter our heads.

Today I’ll be sharing Thoughts Bookworms Have in the New Year! I actually did find myself thinking all these things as 2018 began, which was the initial inspiration for this post. 😉 Let’s get started!

1. What do I need to add to my TBR?

New year, new releases. There are SO MANY new books coming out!

Since this was the first year I consistently read book blogs, I was shocked by the amount of hyped book releases. I spent most of December adding books to my TBR. And there are still so many more to read??

I have no idea how I’m going to stay afloat in my TBR, but I do know that all these books must get added.

2. How many books can I possibly read this year…

I try not to set unrealistic goals for myself, but I do anyway. Last year, I said set the goal of 200 books. What was I thinking.

That’s 16 books every. single. month! If you can read that much, then kudos to you and can I be you please, but I don’t know what I was thinking. (This year I set a much more attainable goal.)

Basically, I always find myself shooting really high when I set goals for reading! When later months come around, I just shake my head at my January self that was so eager and full of false expectations.arrow

3. What did I even read last year?!

Seriously, raise your hand if you can tell me the main character’s name in every book you read a few months ago.

I know I can’t. And I have a pretty good memory when it comes to things like facts and dates and scientific processes, but not when it comes to books.

When I was writing my Year in Books post, I had my lists of books I read next to me and a tab with Goodreads open. Some of the books on my list, I didn’t even remember reading. For most of them, I couldn’t tell you any specific details about the story or even what the character’s name was. (This wasn’t true for all the books, of course.)

I’m sorry, the books I read in 2017 can’t come to the phone right now. Why? Oh, because I forgot about them.arrow

4. I can totally make time to read this year.

As I get older, it gets harder and harder to find time to read. Suddenly I have so much homework and responsibilities. There are tests to study for and vocabulary to be learned and dance classes to go to and oh wait, I also want to spend time with my family and hang out with friends and go to church?

In a nutshell, I am quite busy.

But in January, I always hold on to the hope that somehow this year will be different. I will have tons of time for reading.

5. I should reorganize my bookshelf…

I’m one of the those people who cleans and organizes everything when the New Year comes around. So, naturally, that extends to my bookshelf, too.

I’ve been wanting to reorganize mine this year, but I’ve been so busy that I haven’t gotten the chance yet. After I do get a chance, I will definitely be doing an updated bookshelf tour. 🙂

6. I’m going to start this year off right by reading a lot.

Like I said earlier, I am the Queen of False Expectations.

At the beginning of the year, I’m on fire. I feel so full with the thoughts of everything I’m going to accomplish, and I’m racing towards my goals.

That lasts approximately a week.

I’ll still be reaching for my goals, but after about a week reality starts to seep in. Responsibilities hit me, and I realize that I’m not going to be able to accomplish every single thing I wanted to.

Something I tell myself every year is that I will start off the year by reading a lot, and usually I can do pretty well in January. It’s just later on when my exhaustion hits.

7. This year I’ll branch out on what I read.

When I’m setting my goals, I’ll always tell myself this year I’ll read nonfiction.

JOEY IS SO ACCURATE IN ALL SITUATIONS

And every year, I don’t. I just can’t immerse myself into nonfiction. (If you have any good nonfiction recommendations, let me know!)

The sad truth is, I always say I’m going to branch out in what I read, but I never do.

8. Yes, I’ll definitely get around to reading all those books this year.

You know those books that’ve been sitting on your TBR since the day you got Goodreads? Or that one book you got for Christmas a few years ago that’s tucked away in your bookshelf?

Yeah, those. All the ones you say you’re going to read.

Right now, since it’s only January, I have hopes for myself. (A few of the books I’ve been wanting to read are the Twilight and Divergent series.) But… we’ll see if I end up reading them or not. 😉

I hope you enjoyed this post and could relate to it! Honestly, I sadly have these thoughts. 2018 will be different though, right?! All goals will fail be achieved.

Do you relate to these? How is your 2018 so far? Do you reorganize your bookshelf often? What books do you want to get around to reading this year?

    • Thank you, Ilsa! I’m lucky to have a bookshelf, but at least you don’t have to worry about organizing anything. XD AND THANKS! Honestly, my bookshelf is my favorite thing to photograph. (Read: only thing I photograph.) AND I KNOW ME TOOOOO. Your post was really helpful in me learning about releases, so thank you for that. 🙂

  3. This was a little too accurate. XD Especially “I’m going to read a lot this year really” — ahahaha *no*.
My bookshelf is mostly just storage. I’ve had books passed down onto me that take up one shelf, and I surprisingly don’t buy many books. I guess that’s because I’m super picky and don’t have many books I’d like to pre-order/re-read.
    P.S. I did. >:D

    • Hehe, I’m glad this was so accurate for you.😂And I know, right?! I have so many expectations for this year, but I know I’m going to watch them go down the drain… On a more positive note, I also don’t buy many books! Really, I only buy them if I KNOW they’re going to be super good.
P.S. YAY! I was so proud of that reference. I’m such a TS nerd. 😉

  4. I bought a whole bunch of new books and stuck them on my shelves…so does that count as reorganizing? 😂
But seriously, I set WAY too high goals for myself. I’ll drown in books this summer when I realize how much MORE I need to read and write.

  5. Hahahaha love this! I can totally relate!
I thought I’d start the year well for once and read at least 7 books in January because I had a lot of free time. I’m still trying to finish my third because I KEEP STARTING NEW ONES AND BUYING NEW ONES I can’t stop!
