It’s a beautiful day when I go to the library.
So that makes yesterday a beautiful day, because I was able to go to the library and check out free books. 😉 I ended up getting a lot of contemporaries and books that have been on my TBR for a while, so I wanted to share them with you all today!
I don’t go to the library often though I do keep my books until they’re overdue, so when I do, it’s cause for celebration (and a blog post about them).
I may be slightly screaming in this post because I’m just honestly so excited to read all these?? And if you’ve read them, or if you want to read them, please do join in on all the screaming in the comments, I’d love to fangirl with you.
The sight of all these books makes me so happy, y’all.
Like I said, I mostly got contemporaries and other books that are on my regular (or summer) TBR list. Below I’m going to be sharing (in no particular order) a little bit about the books I got and why I got them. Let’s get started! And the most awkward intro award goes to…
1. Emily of New Moon, by L.M. Montgomery {goodreads}
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, then you know (or at least now you know) that I LOVE Anne of Green Gables. And the rest of the series. And the Netflix series.
Somehow I’ve never read anything besides the Anne series that L.M. Montgomery wrote. Sad, right? When I discovered that the Emily series existed, I added it to my summer TBR and now I’m finally reading it! Guys, I can’t wait.
2. Challenger Deep, by Neal Shusterman {goodreads}
I actually got this book last time I went to the library, but I never ended up finishing it. It started off pretty slow for me, but as it went on, it definitely got better- I just got distracted by another book and forgot about it.
Still, I was enjoying it, so I got it again this time! Here’s to actually finishing it. 😉
3. Popular: Vintage Wisdom for a Modern Geek, by Maya Van Wagenen {goodreads}
This wasn’t on my TBR, but it was on a reading list at my school a couple years ago, so that’s how I heard of it. I saw it on the shelf at the library and decided to give it a chance!
Basically, it’s the true story of a girl who follows a 1950s popularity guide at her modern-day school. In the book, she describes the results of this experiment. I’m interested in seeing how the experiment goes (I think it would go pretty badly at my school), so that’s why I got this book.
4. Everything Leads To You, by Nina LaCour {goodreads}
I don’t know much about this book, except that the cover is absolutely gorgeous and it’s been recommended by a lot of people and it’s about a set designer (think).
I can’t say much about this one, since I really don’t know, but from what I do know I can tell I’m going to love it!
5. Girl Against the Universe, by Paula Stokes {goodreads}
I LOVE PAULA STOKES.
Yes, I’ve only read one book of hers (This is How it Happened, and it was amazing!), but I can tell I will enjoy the rest of her books, too. After I read This is How it Happened, I emailed her to tell her how much I enjoyed her book, and she emailed back! And was the kindest person ever!
So. I had to read more of her books. I’m very interested in the plot and main character in Girl Against the Universe, and I can’t wait to see what I think of it.
6. Under Rose-Tainted Skies, by Louise Gornall {goodreads}
Can we just take a moment to admire this cover?
It’s just so lovely, I can’t.
Even if I hadn’t heard good things about this book, I think I would probably read it just for the cover. But, beyond the cover, it looks amazing! I’m excited to read about the friendship (turn to lovers?) between Norah and Luke. I can already tell this book is going to give me allll the feels.
7. A List of Cages, by Robin Roe {goodreads}
Once again…the cover. All the heart eyes for contemporary covers!
And…THE STORY! Based on the Goodreads summary, I think I will really enjoy this book. It looks like my kind of contemporary, and it also looks like it will deal with more important issues instead of just being fluffy.
8. Saints and Misfits, by S.K. Ali {goodreads}
I picked this one up randomly from the shelf for three reasons.
1.) THE COVER. I’m sorry for being a broken record.
2.) It reminded me of Hamilton. I know it doesn’t have anything to do with it, but as soon as I saw the title, Wait for It started playing in my head. “…doesn’t discriminate between the sinners and the saints, it takes and it takes and it takes…”
3.) The inside cover flap is so intriguing! It really doesn’t tell much, if anything, about the story, it just leads you straight into a mysterious list. I really want to find out what this story is all about!
And that concludes my library haul! One way or another, I’ll hopefully get around to reviewing all of these books. 🙂 Thank you very much for reading this blog post, you’re greatly appreciated and loved!
Pretty much all of these books are on my wishlist so I am VERY EXCITED FOR YOU. And also, I wish my library was as good as yours, it’s always very behind the times!
Really hope you enjoy these and looking forward to any potential reviews. 🙂

I wonder how well it would go to wear 50’s clothes to school for a week…we should try it! 😂 Sounds like you’ve got a lot of reading to do…but you love reading, so. 😊

I know, I’d never be brave enough to do that. I’ve actually already finished the book where the girl does that, and it was very interesting to see how her fellow students reacted… 😂Thank you for reading, Zella!

Yep, any day you go to the library is automatically a beautiful day. I hope you love Emily of New Moon as much as you love Anne! I think I’ve read Challenger Deep and I don’t think I liked it, but I’m not sure. I’ve read Popular! It was very interesting. There’s one quote that has stuck with me still. Haha, those are some cool covers! Saint and Misfits looks good, I’m can’t wait to hear your thoughts. I have emailed an author! He wrote Barking Up the Wrong Tree, and he emailed me back too, which was very nice of him.

Oh, most definitely. 🙂 Thank you, I hope Emily of New Moon is just as good as Anne, too. Oh, I just finished Popular, and it was really good! I had my doubts (it was on a reading list a couple years ago, so I’d heard of it) but I’m so glad I ended up reading it.
That’s so cool about the author you emailed! It just makes me so happy when authors reply.
Thank you for commenting, Annie!

I’m glad you liked Popular! The part that has stuck with me is when she asked the popular people if they thought they were popular and they said no. That’s how I came across it! One of my friends was reading it for school.
I know! It’s very kind of them.
You’re welcome. :))

Oh yeah, that part was so interesting! It makes me wonder what the popular people at my school would say if they were asked the same question…I don’t plan to find out, though. XD

Hahaha, me too. To both parts. :))

I haven’t read any of these because I don’t usually read contemporaries, but I’ve heard a lot of great things about A List of Cages so I’m sure you’ll enjoy it! And I actually wrote a letter to Sarah J. Maas to give to her when I went to her signing. I knew I wasn’t going to be able to talk to her for more than like a minute so I wrote everything I wanted to say to her.

Gotcha! Just out of curiosity, what’s your favorite genre? (And if it’s fantasy…do you happen to have any recommendations?) Oh, I’ve just finished A List of Cages, and it’s one of my new favorite books. I highly recommend it, even if contemporary isn’t your favorite. 😉
That’s so cool about Sarah J. Maas! I’m hoping to read her books soon. A letter is a really good idea for when you know you won’t be able to say everything. Thank you for commenting, Cailin!

My favorite genre is fantasy and I have sooo many recs. Obviously any SJM book—they’re so well-written and action-packed and my favorite lol, and then I also love Nevernight by Jay Kristoff, which is super dark. But f you’re looking for something lighter then An Enchantment of Ravens is a great standalone fantasy that I loved!

Eep, thank you so much for all the recs! I’m always looking for more because I’m hoping to get into fantasy more soon. I’ll look into all the books you mentioned!

Libraries are one of my favorite places on Earth. ✨
Also, all these pretty covers have my face looking like the human embodiment of the heart eye emoji ❤
(wow… that was a weird and oddly specific description)
I've noticed that contemporaries tend to have the cutest covers ever!! Watercolors, brushstrokes, script fonts… I'm too weak to resist this cover beauty :'')
Ooo, Girl Against the Universe! I've actually never heard of that until now, but now I'm very intrigued. (I mean, that cover!! I sound like a broken record too HAHA) Let me know how that book goes~!

Libraries are the best! And I completely agree- these book covers that turned me into the heart eye emoji, too.😂
YES, they do! I’m a sucker for any cute cursive font and for watercolors and…yeah, contemporary book covers are definitely my aesthetic, haha.
I can’t wait to read Girl of the Universe, I will let you know what I think of it. 😉 Thank you for commenting, Hannah!

Oh, I hope you love all of these books, Olivia! Challenger Deep is absolutely AMAZING, and I really liked that the author wrote it based on his son’s schizophrenia. (It definitely was slow in the beginning, like you said, but it got much better later on.) Under Rose-Tainted Skies, Everything Leads to You, and Saints and Misfits are all also really great books! (I also love their pink color scheme haha.)

I’ve started Under Rose-Tainted Skies and so far, it’s really good. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of them- and enjoying the pink colors, hehe. 😉 Thank you for reading and commenting, May!
