The Summer Bucket List Book Tag // ft. 10 books that are perfect for summer (!!)

What could be better than books and bucket lists?

As I’ve established in my summer bucket list post from a couple weeks ago, I adore bucket lists. And obviously, due to the entirety of my blog’s content, I also adore books. That makes this tag, The Summer Bucket List Book Tag, the most perfect tag for me to do! 😉

Blog Title - Design #1 (31)

First of all, this tag was created by Tiffany from Read By Tiffany. If you’ve never heard of Tiffany and her blog, please stop reading this post and go visit her lovely corner of the internet! I am begging you to leave my post, so you know it’s good. She’s so kind, sweet, never fails to use the best emojis, and her blog (which she recently redesigned) is the best pink, Hufflepuff aesthetic in the universe.

I’m beyond excited that she created an original tag that not only lets me exclaim how wonderful her blog is (!!) but also allows for me to talk about and recommend a whole lot of books to you all.

Let’s get into the post!✨

Summer of Salt

Not only is Summer of Salt set by the water, in a misty, magical town with a lighthouse, it has summer in the title! I hope that’s enough to convince you all to pick it up this summer because it’s more than worth the read. With a wonderful sister relationship, island vibes, all the magic you could ever want, and powerful messages, I recommend this novel with all my heart.

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda (Creekwood, #1)

Not only is this book one of my all-time favorites, I read it for the first time in the summer and so it always feels perfect for this time of year. Simon vs. The Homosapiens Agenda has the most adorable romance ever?? Most of it is over email and it’s just the absolute cutest. Not to mention it has great friendships, sibling relationships, and high school theater. Hi this is the best book ever please read it.

The Other Side of Lost

In the most literal sense, The Other Side of Lost is about the main character, Mari’s, journey as she hikes the John Muir trail. But past surface level, this book is truly about self-discovery as Mari discovers who she really is, and how that person is different than her online persona. This book is especially perfect for summer since it’s about being out in nature and enjoying the true beauty the world has to offer, and what better time to do that than summer?

Foolish Hearts

I cannot and will not ever stop talking about Foolish Hearts. And yes, I just checked it out from the library to reread. Six months after reading it for the first time. It truly just pulled me in and I fell in love right away! With amazing friendships, the soft sunflower that is Gideon, theater, boy bands- I couldn’t put it down, and after finishing it, all I wanted to do was go back to the beginning and enjoy it all over again.

Fame, Fate, and the First Kiss

Just the other day, I read Fame, Fate, and the First Kiss and I read it all in one sitting. I was intrigued by the setting (on a movie set), the main character (strong-willed, but also sweet and funny), the characters (friendships!! with banter!! a romantic love interest!! with even more banter!!) and the overall plot. I plan to review this soon, but it was definitely the definition of a fluffy summer contemporary and I loved it.

From Twinkle, with Love

The romance in From Twinkle, With Love was actually the sweetest thing ever?? It’s been a good few days since I finished this book and I’m still crying over it. 😉 Review is to come on the book as a whole, but I couldn’t help but talk about it here anyway- Twinkle is very ambitious but also a romantic, and the guy-whose-name-shall-remain-not-spoken is incredibly sweet, also romantic, and just an all-around kind person. This romance was so sweet, like eating ice cream, because of how healthy and happy it was!

My Lady Jane (The Lady Janies, #1)

I know I’ve talked about this book a lot, but I can never talk about it enough! My Lady Jane was hilarious- like, laugh out loud in public hilarious- and had such a fun, unexpected twist on history. The romance, the differing points of view, the funny lines from the authors- I love everything about this book, so much so that I bought it and have already reread it. It’s a breath of fresh air from your average fantasy!

The Last Summer of the Garrett Girls

Would it really be a summer recommendations post if I didn’t talk about The Last Summer of the Garrett Girls?? I literally love this book beyond words. And yet here I am trying to describe my love for it in words. Each of the four sisters in this novel face their own challenges and conquer obstacles within themselves throughout the story, making you all the more attached to them. With its small-town feel, sister relationships, and the fact that it’s set in the summer, this is a perfect book to read this time of year.

Stay Sweet

I’m going to have to go with Tiffany’s choice here and feature Stay Sweet. I feel like this book screams summer, what with its bright colors and the fact that so much of its plot revolves around ice cream! Being the ice cream connoisseur that I am, I can assure you that you won’t be disappointed by the sheer amount of ice cream in this book. I enjoyed the rest of the story too, and it’s a great fluffy summer contemporary.

Becoming

It didn’t come as a surprise to me that I was utterly inspired by Becoming. Michelle Obama is a phenomenal role model, and I loved reading about her life experiences! I think it’s a wonderful book to read during the summer because it’s on the longer side (and there’s more time in the summer) and because summer is a good time to recharge and become reinspired- which is what will happen after you read this book.

    • I hope I made your TBR larger with this post then?? Oh my goodness, Becoming is so good and yes, just Michelle Obama. Stay Sweet was super cute!! I do have to say that I wasn’t the biggest fan of the romance, but the rest of it was utterly adorable and I wouldn’t say the romance is THE central part. Happy reading!☀️

    • Thank you, Sophie!💘I hope you found some books to add to your TBR to read this summer.
I really liked The Other Side of Lost! I hadn’t heard too much about it and I think it deserves more attention than it got for sure.
Yes- Foolish Hearts is wonderful! I recommend all Emma Mills though, my second favorite being Famous in a Small Town. You honestly can’t go wrong with one of her books!
My Lady Jane is genuinely hilarious and I hope you love it as much as I did.
Thank you again, and thank you for all your kind words! 🙂

  5. Such a fun tag!
The romance in Simon VS is the cutest, I can’t even remember how many times I’ve reread the book but I love it!!
From Twinkle, With Love is on my tbr but it sounds amazing, along with Becoming which I’d love to read.
I also need to read a Kasie West book this summer!! I have so many of her books on my tbr and they seem like perfect summer contemporaries, so can’t wait to get to them!

    • Ahh, it really is!
I KNOW RIGHT. I could reread Simon Vs. all day, it just is truly the most adorable romance and story ever.😍
I loved both of those! They’re really different- Twinkle is super fluffy and Becoming is definitely not- but both worth a read. Ahh, yes, I just finished another Kasie West contemporary and they’re the perfect quick and fluffy summer reads! Happy reading, Emme. ❤

  6. Ohh, this would be a good post when fall comes around but school-themed?
Ultimate summer read, that’s hard. Okay, my favorite YA contemporary book of maybe all time is Once and for All. I’m not sure if it’s set in summer, but it feels like a great book to read in summer.
Also, I’m halfway through Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone(!!!!!). It’s crazy reading it now because I saw Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them on his reading list and was like, that’s insane, J. K. Rowling could not have imagined what could have happened when she wrote that line. And in the beginning when there’s the line, everybody in the world will know his name! Dude, the second meaning that has now. It’s just crazy. And of course, I am loving it, seriously. :)) After you do your Harry Potter reread, maybe we could do a post on me reading it for the first time and you reading it again?

    • WHOA TRUE. That is a very good idea!
I still need to read Once and For All! I just checked on my Goodreads, and it is on my TBR, so now it’s just a matter of me intentionally seeking it out at the library.
AHH WHAT!! I am so excited for you oh my gosh oh my gosh. I know right, it’s so crazy! I think about that when I reread the first HP- back when she wrote that, she never even knew how much of a phenomenon it was going to become. I’m so glad that you’re loving it! Feel free to DM me updates of where you are if you want to. :)) YES, I love that idea so much! We should definitely do that.

    • It was really interesting + full of hiking and friends and self discovery!
Oh my gosh, they’re the best. I just reread Foolish Hearts and I may or may not have TEARED UP because I absolutely couldn’t handle Gideon’s adorable-ness and his and Noah’s friendship.😭Like every time Gideon or Noah introduced the other to someone~ “Here’s Gideon/Noah, he’s the best person I know.” Like WHAT, my heart.
Please do, it makes my heart so happy!!

  8. book recs by themselves are amazing, but when you add a theme? yeah that’s just *cues audience clapping* The cover for Summer of Salt is SO pretty, and you just make it sound so good!! I’m just how have I not read Simon yet? I’ve been meaning to for more than an year now, ugh this is now on my top 5 books to read next list (yeah, a list). I recall that you did an interview post with the author of the Garrett Girls, right? uh yes, of course, I’m adding them to my tbr now, as always. Great tag, loved this post, it feels so good to comment on your blog again! missed chatting with you 🙂 sending love!
